to carrying on hi-lighting or go back to dark that is ALWAYS the question?!!!

Hey everyone,
Of all the things that we have in our lives to worry about and mine is my hair colour (how pathetic,right?) Lol! Basically I have recently had my hair highlighted and it has gone seriously brassy and golden which makes my skin look grey! I spent 70 quid on it and no matter how hard I try to convince myself when I look in the mirror that is ok I know deep down it looks shite! My dilemma is to keep it this way and hopefully it will go a nice icey blonde next time or just dye it back to a dark red/brown. Also would like to save money by going dark but I am worried I will regret it! Arrrggghhh

My colour naturally is mousey brown and i am pale with hazel eyes! Sorry my confidence is quite low cause of this. It actually looks like i have hi-lighted it myself like orangey bits an all that! I have tried brass corrector shamposs and i still look like my totishell cat lol

Any advice on what to do? I am torn an don't want to have wasted 70 quid but can't stand looking like this! What would you do?

Go back and speak to your hairdresser. Tell them it isn't the colour you were expecting or wanted and ask what they can do next time? I've gone from very dark brown to light blonde in the last few months and it's meant i've had to go through the orangey, brassy shades first. It's just they way it works.

I would be going back to the salon and asking them to rectify it if you really aren't happy. I once had a botch job where it went super bleached blonde so went back and they put some darker bits through to break it up and bit and I was much happier afterwards....

I have swung between blonde and dark (my natural colour is mid brown) but I always go back to being highlighted in the end, it just seems to suit me more.

I'm no hairdresser but can't they at lest put on a lilac wash (!!!!) that will diminish the brassiness?

There are hundreds (OK, small exaggeration there) of shades of blonde and it sounds as though your hairdresser has dyed your hair the wrong shade for your skin tone.

Do try going back and asking for a more senior colourist. Remember - you are a walking advertisement for them, at the moment. If you go to school/playgroup/work/wherever and tell people mournfully how vile it makes you feel, that's 20+ women who are listening to you and mentally putting a line through that hairdresser's name. So it is in their interests to put it right.

i'm similar colouring and have to avoid anything yellow. ash blond for you?

My hairdresser normally puts a toner on my hair after highlights but before washing to take the yellowness out, maybe they should have done that.

Thankyou all so much for replying! The foils were in my hair for 4 and a half hours maybe they left it too long and i don't get why they didn't use a toner! I am naturally mousey and had a brown put on a year or so ago so i know it shouldn't have gone this way! I would go back believe me I would of said as soon as it dried WTF?! But it's my dh's family friend's salon and i thought it would be best to bite my tongue! What an idiot three weeks later i am stuck with this multi-coloured mane and i don't even want to leave the house! Lol! The worst thing is i had it done a few hours before i went out for my birthday and i didn't have time to sort it out so couldn't enjoy my night well when face with a mirror! Thank god for tequila haha! I have severe blonde envy now and i am gonna wait another 5 weeks and go to another salon!

4 and a half hours!

I have mine highlighted but have sections of a mid brown and a caramel put through so that it doesn't go too light because it has a tendancy to brassiness with too much blonde.

nikkinoonoo - I've PM-ed you.

I have a caramel, an ash and a pastel blonde put through and the mix of colours make it look more 'natural' and the break in colours helps hide roots for longer than a block colour.
