A question on home hair colouring

i coloured my hair about 6 weeks ago and it came out very dark brown. Last week I decided to go alot lighter so I bought a caramel colour. It was the one that davina McCall advertises. It did nit work at all. Can anyone recommend a home colouring that will work from very dark to light or m I going to have to shell out at the hairdressers

You won't be able to lighten your hair unless you strip the old colour out or use peroxide (bleach) first.

You could try this:

www.boots.com/en/Colour-B4-Hair-Colour-Remover-by-Scott-Cornwall-hair-expert-_1000978/

You can then apply the colour you want afterwards but usually hair dye is a shade darker than what you think on the box so dark blonde = light brown, brown = dark brown etc so try and choose one one shade lighter.
