Teenage skincare

DD2 is 14 and currently looking rather spotty on her forehead. Any ideas for what cleanser/other she might try please? She's currently using a Garnier face wash but it's clearly not helping. I don't want to get her anything too harsh though, as the rest of her skin is lovely.

olay gentle cleansers are good and cheap.
Make sure what ever she uses is non-comedogenic.

what about something creamier that she takes off with a flannel? Like the No. 7 hot cloth cleanser/Liz earle/tesco oragnic type stuff

I think sometimes the skin washes are too stripping

My 14 year old sometimes has spotty skin, she uses the Garnier Grapefruit scrub which seems to do the trick. When her skin (or mine) is bad we make up an aspirin facemask which works wonders. I crush 3 or 4 aspirins and mix with a little water and apply to the face and lie back for 5 mins. It is quite strong so I wouldn't use it too often but I do it approx 2 times a month and dd2 uses it about every 6 weeks.

It's the Grapefruit wash that she's currently using. Will try the aspirin thing, thank you.

Means the product has been tested to ensure it doesn't clog pores & cause spots / blackheads

My 18 year old dd has just said to let you know that Soap and Glory's Scrub you nose in it is excellent. It's a cross between a clay mask and a scrub. She swears by it and I'm going to try it tonight. She may regret telling me this!

My dd has tried various stuff but for the past year has been using Clinique cleansing bars. Not too harsh and been really good for her spots. Looks expensive but absolutely lasts for ages, as long as you make sure the rest of the family don't use it in the bath or shower. Dd also uses it on her chest and top of back and keeps her spots under control.

Dermalogica - they do a medicated cleansing wash - is fab and although seems expensive you only need to use a 5p sized blob so a bottle will last for months.

Thank you - don't think I can afford it though. I don't pay that much even for myself!

Lush Coalface soap and the 'Vanishing Cream' moisturiser are great. Lush are also very generous with samples and the soap is sold by weight so you can get a small bit to try.

Thanks. Do you know if there is a Lush anywhere near Oxford Street? I don't normally go in as I don't like the smell but I could see if I could get a sample.

I would recommend Dermalogica's Clean STart range- great face wash.

I have two teenaged girls; one uses the Amie range (in some Boots or Boots on line); the other uses Witch products (in Tesco definitely); both do seem to work; the grapefruit one mentioned above is also good. DD1 got given the Dermalogica stuff for a present, it is great but much pricier so I would stick to Amie if I were you!

She's had Witch before and in retrospect I think it was probably better than the Garnier. Will have a look at Amie for her.

Does anybody recommend a spot-zapping thing, or is Sudocreme or something better? Or nothing?

Clarins have just launched a new teenage skin care range. Daily energisers! It's incredible and they do starter packs for £19! I cannot beleive the results. They are great for giving samples before you buy swell. In glamour magazine this month there's a little flyer that you hand inane get a free trial mascara, skin analysis and make up trial! The girl that did mine worked miracles and didn't put me under any pressure to buy.

It's about £13 on the net for the wash..I agree, Amie is very good.

Remus happy to report back that the 'Soap and Glory Scrub your nose in it' is very good. Used it last night and my skin had that tingly fresh feel that I love. I have 40 year old skin rather than lovely teen skin but 18 year old dd highly recommends it too. Apparently she has used it for ages but keeps the bottle in her room to stop me and her younger sister using it, as if

And may investigate some S&G stuff for myself. I've only ever tried the bubble bath and was put off by the unpleasantly sweet smell - does the face care smell like that too?

The scrub smells like other clay masks, but I know what you mean about the sickly sweet smell. DD1 uses their WHOLE range and when she has her shower the entire upstairs smells of the stuff!
