Can anyone advise me on stripping hair dye & recolouring (very short hair) please?

My hair is naturally brown with golden tones and a bit of grey. I've dyed it various shades of red for years - at present it is very dark red colour which was done at a salon. It's not far off black in some lights. I don't like the colour, but that's my fault, not the salon's, as it was what I asked for.

I don't want to spend around £130 for a colour revision - and I can't get an appointment till late next week anyhow.

Can anyone please advise me re. the best way to bleach out the hair colour and then re-colour it a medium brown with a hint of red. Or a sophisticated medium chocolatey brown.

Btw, I don't think that a product such as Colour B4 will work well and would prefer to use a lightening/blonding kit to remove the old colour.

I have done this before, many years ago, but was a lot younger and not too fussed if the end result was a bit bright & funky. Now, I feel that the red is too red and too dark and would like to look a bit more natural.
Have coloured it lots over the years - bleach then recolour & suchlike. My hair condition always seemed OK afterwards but the end colour was often random and that's what I'm trying to avoid.

I'd like to have it finished by Monday night, so will need buy the products on Saturday, if anyone can advise me.
Am having it cut tomorrow so it will be very short - short layered crop all over.

L'oreal blonde supreme bleaching kit. Leave it a day or 2 then a good quality (not n&e) chestnut/mahogany dye. Try to buy one of those dye applicator brushes they use in salons and use a tail comb and clips to section hair.

I got something in Boots to take out all the colour in my hair and had massive horizontal stripes of colour down the back. I quite liked it but dh was a bit so I coloured it darker and it was fine. I get my hair coloured at a salon now but after 3 times of not liking it I am leaving it for a while now.

i've used Garnier nutrisse in the extra lightening blonde colour to strip an intense ruby red from my hair,it came out a warm golden,so I did it again and it went a nice ivory blonde.It also seems to be on offer at the mo hope that helps

If you want to avoid ColourB4 (which I think would actually work very well for you and be less damaging than bleach but hey ho) then get some Jerome Russell 40 volume peroxide and a sachet of bleach powder and use that. It will probably take you at least 45 minutes to get "up" to a light rust and then you can colour over straightaway (after obviously washing the bleach out, conditioning and drying the hair), or in an ideal world wait a day or two but honestly it doesn't make a huge difference, I suggest Clairol Nice n Easy 117d Medium Golden Brown which will look lovely or you could try Light golden brown or light chestnut brown or even light caramel brown if you don't bring it "up" as far as a dark blonde - if its already quite a reddy brown a medium might make it too dark, depending...

Today I bought a L'Oreal Blonde Supreme bleaching kit and a pack of ColourB4 - haven't yet decided which to use. I also bought two box colours - L'Oreal Virginia (chestnut brown) and the Clairol N&E 117d suggested by TattyD.

I'll be up at the crack of dawn on Sunday to strip the colour, then leave it a few hours before I colour it over with one of the box colours.
