Spanx or M&S?

I need some light to medium control knickers for a jersey dress (fabric, not style!).

They need to be above the waist and either a seamless thong or to top of the thighs.

I don't normally wear them (confirmed thong wearer) and don't know if Spanx are worth the extra money? Although the prices do seem quite similar and around the £35 mark.

Am a size 10-12 and I don't want to feel totally trussed up but by the same token, I don't want to have to think about stomach area (legs/thighs not an issue). Will ones that come to the thigh have a 'line' where they stop - similar to bad hold-ups?

Are there other makes as well?

Ducky, do they give you a muffin top? Or sausage thighs?! I've got good legs (don't worry, the face ain't all that!) and would be most fed up if they looked ropey due to stomach excess being squeezed out the legs!
