Barbours - what about these?

What does anyone think of these two Barbpurs please?

Liberty print and Cavalry?

Like the navy in both. Want something warm - don't want to look like a granny in the quilted but neither like a country bumpkin (guess I am though!) in the first!!

I've got a similar one - this which I love.

It's warm but you'd want something (fleece, jersey) under it in very cold weather. Also, it may just be this particular style but it is quite close fitting so if you're between sizes a size up might be an idea so you can get another layer under it.

Oh but yes, to answer your actual question...

I prefer the Liberty print one - the quilted one IMO would look a bit as if you've tethered your horse somewhere before going shopping. Unless you're actually planning to use it for going down your stable yard?

First one. The quilted ones are everywhere at the moment.

I like both.

I've got the anya hindmarc/barbour quilted jacket from last year and have worn it loads but its not a cold weather jacket.

Have you looked at the international style as well?

Or if you want super warm the arctic parka is really lovely.

I have a polarquilt and I love it but it isn't warm.

So, almost a split down the middle! I tried yours on in HoF on Saturday Hellon. Twas very nice! Also tried the Barbour Beadnell on which is the basic version of the first link but with Barbour tartan rather than Liberty print. DH reckoned it is too similar to my 20 year old Barbour which hangs -gathering dust-- under the stairs! But what would men know?

Mrs CB, yes, looked at the Internationals - they are lovely but I got a CDC trench coat last year which is belted so I'm trying to avoid belted in my casual/everyday jacket.

Actually, therein lies my problem. I think I need want two different jackets! One along the Barbour line, casual that looks smart along with it but it won't necessarily be waterproof, can dress it up a bit if I want to with nice jeans, boots and a nice scarf. Then I really do need to replace my 12 year old Berghaus with something which will keep me dry when it's bucketing. Quite like the Jack Wolfskins and some of the Northface jackets. However, that won't do me for my main jacket as I don't want to look like I'm a wanna-be hiker every time I go out !

If you want warm, I have the winter? utility jacket (among others) in sandstone or whatever it's called, with the check lining and detachable furry collar. It's not got a belt and it's really thick so much so that the 10 is a bit tight with a jumper under.

The lining is much thicker flannelly stuff than most barbours...it's like a nice thick pair of pyjamas.

Also look at the emily and kate jackets.

bTw mine isn't waterproof. It lets water through at the inside elbow. Yuck.

Never been rained on thoroughly in the utility mac I have so not sure if that's better. I'd suggest something else entirely if you really want waterproof, but a barbour for warmth.

I like it very much, I was hesistant as I thought that my waist might get lost in a quilted style but that one is very shaped.

Machine washable was a pleasant surprise too, I haven't had a machine washable jacket since school.

but it looks shapeless on there and IRL it's gorgeously fitted. Just goes in and gives you a waist. It's lovely.

Oh that is gorgeous Gloria but sadly it looks to be Discontinued in the sandstone and maybe out of stock in the other colours. Like it though! The Emily is nice but looks to be one of the lighter, flyweight jackets though I might order Kate in the Rustic. That would be three I'm going to order to try on!

Oh I'm sorry Millie, I didn't think to check. I got mine on ebay a couple of years ago (just noticed the immense price new I think I paid about a hundred, it was in vgc)

ebay is worth a look as is waiting for sales...I got my utility mac v cheap from W M Nicholls.

Oops ... I ordered four styles to try on - the Liberty Beadnell, Kate, cavalry and the plain Utility! Delivery is 7-10 days as I was too stingy to pay £19 or £23 (!!!!) for the other two delivery options!

OP, pls post back what you think of them when they arrive: I'm on a similar quest!

UPDATE. They arrived yesterday - the free delivery took two days - I could have spent £23 to get them in the same timescale! Brilliant service. Right ...

The Liberty Beadnell is disappointing. It's not fitted at all and the collar is a very old-fashioned shape. This is the only jacket I ordered which will take the interactive liner. It's like a traditional style of Barbour which they have tried to update with the Liberty fabric but, for me, it hasn't worked.

The Cavalry is lovely but very fitted. I think I would need to size up. It's a very nice shape however, it isn't a heavy jacket though might be warmer than I imagine it would be.

The Kate is gorgeous. Got it in Rustic and it has a lovely Libery print lining. It's a much more modern shape than the Beadnell. Semi-fitted, stand up collar, quite narrow sleeves, four pockets.

The Utility is also lovely. I got the rustic colour and it has a brown plaid lining. It is a semi-fitted shape but is a slightly more relaxed finish than the Kate. The sleeves are a narrower cut - there are millimetres difference but it's the way the seam runs on the Kate which makes the sleeves on it more fitted. It finishes mid-bum in length. Has four pockets like the Kate and a stand up collar. It's just a very very slightly different cut to the Kate.

I'll have to try them on again today with jumpers/winter layers rather than t-shirts underneath. I ordered all jackets in a 10. The Beadnell looks almost too big, the Cavalry definitely needs a size up and if it was easy, I'd love to compare a 10 v 12 in the Utility and Kate though I think the 12 might just look too gapey. For me, it's a choice between Utility and Kate which are pretty much the same jacket just with a slightly different fit.

i have the ladies international barbour jacket which I love, but just spotted this on H&M, direct copy, not a bad version either!

that looks lovely - didn't see in my local H&m but will order this - just what I was looking for and much cheaper then a Barbour whivh is great as I had promised not to buy any clothes this season.

you should check out Fjallraven if you are looking at Barbours, same system (wax treated) and slightly different styles (less 'horsey') not cheap but they do go for 20 years if treated well

I had a look today at the selection in a John lewis- what put me off was the bright Barbour logo on the(Liberty print) pockets- I wouldn't want everyone to spot it in case they thought i was flaunting.
