Will hair dye kill headlice?

Ok...I have a filename...the lovely Dcs seem to have picked up headlice on hols...and am sitting here a little itchy.

I washed my hair a couple of days and have walked around with a frizzy mop cos I don't use products before I dye as per recommendations. I also leave at least 24hrs after shampooing.

Now my plan was to dye tonight to let it settle before seeing a potential love interest next week. But I really ought to Nitty gritty myself....but then I was wondering with all the harsher chemicals in hair dye might prove fatal to the critters anyway?

So do I dye tonight and hope the critters are poisoned by the hair dye
Or
Nitty gritty myself and go mother couple of days before dying and hope I don't bodge it before I am in the same room as the main I have my eye on

I don't have a filename I have a DILEMA as well as other random errors...

I would get rid of the nits first tbh. Hedrin is the best product to sort it out quickly I think

Couldn't you comb through with a nit comb before and after colouring, then every couple of days to make sure? Think that's what I would do.

Don't know about the lice but "I have a filename" really made me giggle - like you were on a secret mission about the destruction of headline

I would have thought that after dying would have been the worst time? Won't the hair follicle be porous and subject to damage immediately after dying?

you might just end up with blonde/ brunette/ auburn nits

seriously get the nitty gritty out and sort the buggers out first. Dye will not shift the eggs that may be attached to your hair. They will still hatch unless you get rid of them properly.

as for the potential love interest- he won't fancy you much if you give him nits

I know I know...I was expecting a clear cut answer TBH....even tho I was being hopeful...

I would treat now and dye in a couple of days, this is what my SIL a primary school teacher was told by a hairdresser, also she was told to use a plant spray with a warm water and tea tree mix once a week on the DC and herself, we also do this also and both houses have been nit free for 2 years HTH

Which is likely be more detrimental to your prospects with this man? A bad hair day (which a: might not happen, and b: you'd still have time to do something about) or giving him lice?

I'd treat the nits.

Hedrin is just silicon, the same stuff that's in loads of conditioners and serums - it'll just make your dye extra shiney not sook into your hair

Yes it does. I'm a hairdresser, and I was once colouring an older lady's hair, and I thought she must have been gardening as I noticed little bits in her hair. Halfway through I realised though, so had to continue. Killed all the blighters nicely! :o

Well I was a.good girl. I Nitty grittied. Found one louse which I don't think was fully mature based on size. No eggs. So I think I should be clear but will check at the weekend. Have stopped itching. May try and dye tomorrow night which will be bordering on 24hrs after washing.

Hate to say it, but it hasn't worked for me. Though I was using semi-permanent. Maybe the permanent stuff is stronger? We just did a big session tonight, sigh..

I was using permanent, the peroxide is stronger than in semi permanent.
