Getting colours done...

I'm sure this has been done to death but having 'just' (sure I can claim that for a few months yet...) had a baby I'm feeling a bit out of sorts with the way I look and thought this might be a way to boost my confidence and rejuvinate the way I feel about myself. The thing is I don't really have the budget to splash out on one of the proper consultations right now.

Has anyone tried the online cheapy version for £30 (shoppingswatch)? Or is that just false economy and I should just hang on till I can afford the real thing? If so can anyone recommend a particular company?

Are there any other ways of cutting the cost?

False economy. I honestly believe you need to be draped in order to know your absolute best colours.

Take me and CakeandRoses for example. We are both "springs" yet our "double star colours" - our absolute best colours that really bring out the best in us - are totally different. Sure, we both look better in the Spring palette in general, but at the end of our "journey" say in 2 years time if you were to open our wardrobes and have a poke around, they would be completely different in both colours and styles, no doubt.

Don't spend any money on anything until you can get draped properly. By all means do an online quiz but don't be investing in any swatch wallets or makeup or clothing of any great value until you can be sure. I would have spent £££ on Autumn stuff and then realised I was a spring!

Ah...it's a whole new world to me! And one I'd very much like to know more about, I like a 'project'

So how/where do I get this sort of thing done properly? Dare I ask how much to expect to pay?

Go to house of Colour, they seem to be the best, costs about £120 afair. As for cost, i've found it has paid for itself already because I haven't made loads of shopping mistakes, especially when you don't have a lot of time to shop with little ones. If you know the right colours to go for it's much quicker to shop and get dressed in the morning, so you save loads of time too. Go on, try it!

Isn't it funny how having a baby changes you - I wouldn't have thought twice about just going for it pre-ds! Probably will still do it as spend an inordinate amount of time (when not attached to a tiny boy) these days deciding what won't look too hideous!

Yeah, I know it sounds like a lot of money up front, but it is great having a day out where the focus is on you for a change is soooo nice! Can you get someone to treat you as a birthday or xmas gift?

Yeah I think I'll work on that angle as mil and sil both had theirs done a while back to great effect!

Has anyone had experiences with this or other companies - in NE particularly as consultants differ?

I was feeling the same after birth of DD1 and asked for a voucher for Christmas a couple of years back, got everyone to chip in. Went to 'Colour Me Beautiful' and the appointment was in the consultant's home. Cost around £125 I think.

I found it really useful. In fact I paid to go back for a second "styling" session. It did give me a real confidence boost too.

I was able to ditch a load of clothes and can now walk into shops and ignore whole rails of clothes.

I agree with the other replies. It is so worth it to have your colours done professionally. It feels like being pampered all day because it is all about you. I am winter and never go shopping for clothes at this time of year because the shops are full of tans, browns and dingy greens, none of which suit me. You will find that you walk past rails of clothes that you know won't suit you and make a beeline for your colours. It will also help you build a wardrobe with clothes that all go with each other.
