Seriously considering a perm.....yes a perm.....

Basically I am bored to the back teeth of my long straight mousy hair which has honey and fair highlights. I used to get my hair permed back in the way dodgy eighties and it used to look good...am I mad...? Feel free to talk me into or out of this!!!

Perms are back in... Honestly Ive a few friends who are hairdressers and they seem to be doing loads more.
I have naturally curl hair which never seems to be out of fashion, plus curly hair can me 'messy' but no one else very realises.

Go for it.

Doowrah · 12/08/2011 15:17

Cheers, I am edging closer...its only hair afterall.

Link? :)

Ive been thinking about this and I love curly har, I dont know if a perm acts the same way as natural curls but a friend today said my hair always looks lovely, I dont think so but its the power of the curl it blinds people to messy hair.
I do expect a picture on here if you do it.

I am also wanting a perm - though have short hair at mo but grows very very fast

Dilligaf81 · 14/08/2011 22:28

Wished mine did, it just grows outwards and the curls get tighter. Not a good luck on a 30 year old Lol.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 14/08/2011 22:50

Ooh I dont know. I have naturally curly hair that I straighten. A couple of weeks back I went to tesco without straightening it (I know, what a slattern!) and I swear to God people were staring. No one has curly hair any more. It was weird.

I too would love a perm, my hair is fairly long down to the middle of my back and thick. It has a natural wave but not enough to be curly but to much to stay straight Hmm I had my hair curled for a performance recently and I loved it and I think it would be fairly low maintenance, I just need to be brave enough!

Gincognito · 14/08/2011 23:03

What kind of perms are fashionable now? Presumably not the type I had back in the 80s?

catinboots · 14/08/2011 23:06

Can you perm bleached hair??

Dilligaf81 · 15/08/2011 20:38

GwendolineMaryLacey I have loads of friends with curly hair. Maybe down here we just cant be arsed to straighten it ? plus I look awful with straight hair, it ages me about 20 years.

Gincognito Ive asked my hairdresser mate and she said a looser more relaxed curl. They use bigger rollers so it not a tight biddy perm.

catinboots It depends on how damaged your hair is, if you go to a salon they will look at your hair maybe try a strand test to make sure its ok. Your hair would have to be really damamged for them not to do it as the chemicals used arent as strong as bleach.

FatStanley · 15/08/2011 20:49

Oooh, has anyone got a link to a modern perm? I have very dull hair indeed. I'd love a change!

FatStanley · 15/08/2011 20:53

Ok, I've looked myself Grinhere

GwendolineMaryLacey · 15/08/2011 20:58

Well please send them round here because I'd love to not straighten my hair but I need some allies! Wink

ClaireDeLoon · 15/08/2011 21:02

Loads of my friends have curls/waves too and don't straighten. My is lightly curly, more than a wave but not a tight curl and I wear it curly.

Doorway have you spoken to your hairdresser and looked at options?

ClaireDeLoon · 15/08/2011 21:04

Auto correct I typed Doowrah honest!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 16/08/2011 19:13

FatStanley - I'd hardly call that a perm, that looks very reasonable.
