Shalimar by Guerlain - the old versus the new ?

I have recently tried the new version of Shalimar (the Parfum Initial one or whatever its called). I really really loved it.

However being new to Guerlain perfumes I have discovered that there is also the "original" one. So now I am wondering how much the old one differs from the new and wondering if I should also try out the "old" one before deciding which to buy ?

Have tried looking on ebay for samples of the old one but there is nothing.

Guerlain perfumes are wonderful, very old perfume house and very classy.

cheap smells is where I buy my Guerlain from (much cheaper than House of Fraser)!

I've not tried the new Shalimar so couldn't compare the two. Old Shalimar is, for me, quite heavy, warm & spicy and not something I could wear everyday.
