Boring, but essential. Help me sort out a new 'proper' moisturiser, please!

Ok, it's not about a gorgeous frock or handbag, bum sex or a dh being a knobhead, basically, it's very boring, but I need guidance on moisturiser.

I am 34, and am starting to get fine lines on my skin, can see pores fairly easily general signs of wear and tear.. I don't smoke and just have wine as weekend essential!

My skin type is normal to oily with odd slight breakout of spots, especially before period (i do try and swim at least one a week so chlorine may be helping to dry my skin / combat the oilyness?)

Anyway, I usually buy a moisturiser tat's half pride for about £5 . I don't want to spend loads (looking up to about £20 at a push.. but I would be gritting my teeth spending it!) and it must have an SPF as idon't tend to ewear makeup so there isn't any foundation etc to be helping cover up my skin.

I want it to slow down my skin looking older and smooth it a bit?

Is Boots perfect & Protect any good? I use clarins eye cream but when dh bought me the moisturiser there was no spf and t seemed too rich and made me breakout in tiny spots!

Would love any suggestions!

My mum has lovely skin and has used bog standard oil of olay since she was 16. I don't think you need to spend a lot, it just has to suit your skin.

Thanks, I am trying loads to find one that suits! But nothings helping the reallyfine lines, not wrinlkles as such but crepey sort f thin tiny lines following the contours of my face. Got a free trial of a boots serum which was nice but I don't think I should be using or could afford serum every day!!

I love Boots No7 protect and preserve range. The serum is lovely but definitely pricey. I have some but use it occasionally or instead of moisturiser if I go away overnight. It's small so saves on space.

Budget version: I've been using moisturiser from Lidl of all places and it seems ok. Only thing I don't like is it's only SPF4 whereas I usually have SPF15.

In fact, that's a good point. Sun is damaging so make sure you get a moisturiser with an SPF in it. Ask the beauty sales person bod in Boots for advice. Bear in mind that if you ask for advice in a department store, they just want to sell you their particular product but I've found Boots less pushy.

I second the vote for Boots' Protect & Perfect range. It's a bit pricier than I ever went before but I can't fault it & they're always doing 3-for-2 offers AND it really boosts your reward points so then you get a free round on the points later on!

How about a tinted moisturiser? I love Laura Mercier and though more than £20, a little goes a long way.

I used to use Protect and Perfect, but it is pants compared to this. I have been using it for about a year and I look easily 5 years younger, it gets rid of fine lines and has even removed the '11' from between my brows, smooths skins, plums, makes you look more radiant, practically a miracle.

Cannot reccoment it highly enough, google around and you will get it much cheaper, I usually buy it off of e-bay.

You do still need a moisturiser to go on top, but that could be something quite basic, Body Shop carrot one is fab and only £4.
