Ok not due till end of Nov but i have been lusting desperately after winter (non pregnant) clothes. I really don't want to be left with nothing to wear, would it be reasonable to buy a couple( lots) of items to wear post birth. This is DC3, we gave everything away and have no baby stuff and haven't even considered buying any baby things yet.

None of the things i want are expensive but collectively i suppose it could be an expensive mistake.

I am delusional, I want this dress to wear with these shoes. I'm clearly burying my head in the sand about having a baby , where the fuck would I wear them and what about leaky boobs.

Why would you be left with nothing to wear? The shops will be still there?

And you have no idea how quickly you'll lose the weight or if you'll put a lot on or not?

You could buy yourself a nice scarf but who wants to buy a scarf in August?

Maybe concentrate your shopping urges on DC3?

I do jama, i know what scarf and coat i want . I think its a bit like food cravings only more expensive.

Asos will still be there in December and you can ask for lots of nice things for Christmas.

OR... you may just live in maternity wear until February, when you will start getting cravings for Spring stuff.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING NOW (but you can point me towards a nice coat and scarf if you want to do some virtual shopping )

I have dressed babies before its depressing, you buy them beautiful/expensive outfits and they puke on them ( joking,sort of) dc are both very well dressed as i'm sure this baby will be too, its a surprise gender baby so not much shopping to be done yet, besides I need somewhere to totter around in those heels and skinny jeans

Also due end of November. Have bought a grey jumper with sparkly stripes so I can be a comfy slob but the sparkle will make me feel better, a black stretch skirt from H&M, and some brown ankle boots which I am not going to pear til post-baby, just so they're a treat. Found the first 6 weeks at least incredibly tough with DS, and shallow though it may be, I know a few new nice things in those weeks - if I can't get out to shops - will cheer me up.

I bought myself new summer clothes before I had my baby in March. I see no problem, it was nice to have some new things to wear when I wasn't exactly feeling glowing!

Although it seems to really rile some people on MN, it is possible to go back to pre-baby weight quite quickly without any ridiculous 'celebrity' diet. Some people are just lucky...go for it.

I bought a pair of jeggings to wear coming out of the hospital then found out I will most likely be having a c section next month.... Don't bloody buy anything!!

Personally I don't see the harm in buying a few bits, especially if you know from previous pregnancies how well you will slim back down. I assumed I would quickly go back to being slim but it didn't really happen for some months. However I'm not sure how you will BF in that ASOS dress without taking the whole thing off.

Really love that dress! It's so fab.

Buy it, it will give you a good aim to get back into shape. Even if that's the spring or summer you will still be able to wear it then.

ive bought two pairs of maternity (under-the bump band) skinny jeans in Topshop for the first few weeks after the birth (september) I plan on buying new heels and flats to match and some of those kimono style tops. Im tired of my maternity clothes and am looking forward to new outfits. Some people think its a waste to buy for that in between time-after baby but before you get your figure back, I don't, I want to look nice even if I don't feel great! You are not alone! Then again this is my first so I could be completely wrong!

Ah so not completely mad. I'm under no illusion i'll need a size up for a few weeks after baby is born but in the past i've done ok and a good pair of spanx does wonders, thank god it'll be winter. Thanks everyone, I think i'll get a couple of bits to cheer me up but not go too mad.

I wouldn't buy a coat or anything that is required to have an exact fit now.
