Plus size model - yeah right!

Australian Vogue uses a "plus size" model. Hmm If she's plus size, I'm morbidly obese at size 10-12!

Haven't read the whole article, I'd guess she's a 14? She's just normal size, I think, neither particularly fat nor thin.

CeliaFate · 03/08/2011 07:58

She's an Australian 14, which is a UK 12.

Reckon she's a tall size 12-14 - so still slimmer than the majority of us.

Gawjuss woman

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 03/08/2011 08:03

She will be super tall though, I am 5.10 and a 12-14 and have a roughly similar shape and size, allbeit with some extra tummyGrin.

She is very striking.

Soups · 03/08/2011 09:38

She's 8 foot.

She is absolutely stunning - she has a really lovely womanly figure compared to the normal stick-thin models you see used, and a really beautiful face too.

Ormirian · 03/08/2011 11:51

I think she looks normal. But compared to the skinny usual models she is quite chunky. But in a good way.

Don't think she is beautiful though.

minipie · 03/08/2011 11:57

It seems that any model who is over size 6 is "plus size" Hmm.

I bet some of the supermodels from the late 80s and early 90s - Cindy Crawford for example - would be called "plus size" now.

RunnerHasbeen · 03/08/2011 11:58

Plus size model doesn't equate to plus size human being, why do we make these extrapolations? We wouldn't moan if she was referred to as plus size for a high jumper, men don't look at boxers and moan about themselves therefore being heavy weight/ feather weight because they are not boxers. Model criteria is currently tall and thin (changing that is a different issue), so for a model she is plus size - that is no reason for any other woman to beat themselves up. I would be a "mammoth size" jockey, "short arsed" high jumper, "fragile, tiny" sumo wrestler - still overall a normal person of healthy size.

flaminglip · 03/08/2011 12:03

yep. Sorry, but looking at her curves, she's definitely a "plus size"

Ephiny · 03/08/2011 12:09

I think it's all about height - she might be a size 12, but that means a very different thing at say 5'11 than it does if you're 5'2" like me. Don't know how tall she is of course, but models aren't usually short!

She has a lovely figure, certainly not thin though, even for her height.

PerryCombover · 03/08/2011 12:19

lovely but obese for a model

mippy · 03/08/2011 21:35

'Plus-size' models start at a size 12-14. So doesn't bear a large relation to what the high-street refer to as plus-size ie. 16+. But as someone who is busty, it's nice to see what clothing looks like on something other than a boyish figure.

lol at 'obese for a model' - do definitions of obesity (ie. a medical condition) change according to one's profession? Is she 'anorexic for a darts player' as well?

piprabbit · 03/08/2011 21:41

She is very lovely.

I was very cross to discover recently that models are using padding so that they can pretend to be plus-size (a 12 or 14, not talking a size 20). Why not just find someone who is the right size and shape to start with?

PerAr6ua · 03/08/2011 21:53

Wow what a heifer Hmm

PerAr6ua · 03/08/2011 21:54

(lol at anorexic for a darts player)

PaperView · 03/08/2011 21:58

She is plus size - for a model!

ThatVikRinA22 · 03/08/2011 21:58

wails. wails some more.
