Do you have a summer and winter wardrobe- or not? Am I missing something?

Quick reccie in John Lewis London yesterday showed that most of the autumn wear is like summer stuff- both Kew and Jigsaw had new sleeveless silk dresses in, so presumably you have to buy a cardi to go with them?

Is it now old hat to have summer and winter clothes- do people just layer everything all year round?

My colleague has a winter and summer wardrobe. I'd never heard of people doing this (am from Manchester - raincoat needed all year round). But yes, apparently people do this.

But I live in a place with real seasons, cold in winter, hot in summer. Have just been to Edinburgh for 2 weeks, and had to dig into my winter clothes (all packed away till Oct/Nov) before packing.

I do, and in fact, very optimistically a couple of months ago at the start of "summer" I packed away a lot of my winter wardrobe, and unpacked the summer wardrobe.

Which is good - as I went overseas and wore the summer stuff there. And the winter stuff's back out for the UK

My winter wardrobe is the same as my summer, but with a T shirt or vest on underneath.

Some of mine crossover - cardigans, vests, some dresses. But I definitely have a winter and a summer wardrobe. I miss my winter one ATM.

Yes I do..pack all jumpers and cardigans and wool trousers boots , jersey dresses away etc and get out the summer maxis and short dresses and sandals. But keep having to dip back into the winter stuff thanks to our so called summer

I have a summer wardrobe full of lovely stuff and hate packing it away again. I hate winter stuff with passion such dull colours available 99% of it.

I love my winter clothes so much more than my summer clothes. Leather, leopard print, lace, biker boots...I can't wait to wear it all again!

I do - even though I don't have all that many clothes, I have a limited space to hang them so I get out dresses, vests, floaty tops and sandals out for summer, and thick jumpers, tights and knitted dresses for winter. The jeans and cardies stay out all year and so does the raincoat.

Nope, one wardrobe full of stuff that I pick out depending on the weather. Layer a vest under / cardi over usual tops if cold, never gets warm enough up here to warrant strappy bits of flimse.

Absolutely. My winter wardrobe is my summer wardrobe and a card. I wear socks with my fit flops if it's snowing...

Agree with bullet - I love winter stuff. i get so excited when it's time for woolly tights and boots again.

Nope but I do have two dresses and a couple of pairs of sandals that I only wear in summer and I wouldn't wear black opaques in July, however cold it was. Otherwise, I just wear what suits the weather on the whole. Love Autumn clothes the best though.

Yes I do, just dont have the room to hang it all up. There are some bits like jeans and cardis that do both seasons. Colours and thicknesses change summer/winter.

On this topic, do you use a different handbag summer/winter? Excluding holidays of course.

I live by the seasons regardless of what the weather's doing which I am aware sounds fairly bonkers. Come October I will be packing away my cropped trousers, shorts, summer dresses, sandals etc and getting out my knitted tunics, boots and winter coat. Then vice versa around March time.

I do have lots of basic things that I wear throughout the year - jeans, vests, some cardis etc, but for me it's like a fresh start to unearth my new season's clothes, I really look forward to it. In my defence I do have limited space so it wouldn't be practical to have all my clothes out at once.

I find my style changes from season to season - in summer I tend to wear more casual styles, less make up and fresher colours. My summer bag (yes I have seasonal accessories as well) is usually a cotton messenger bag or satchel. In the colder months I am generally a bit smarter, I wear darker shades, more fitted styles and have a proper leather bag.

I really enjoy my twice-yearly wardrobe reshuffle, it's a great opportunity to look at what I've got, what fits (or doesn't!) and most importantly, what I need to buy!

I've spent today auditing my wardrobe into the following headings:

1. Things I can wear now - pregnant
2. Summer things to pack away until I'm a size 10 again
3. Winter things as for 2
4. Stuff to bin
5. Stuff to charity

I have far too many clothes though

But I am always so cold in winter that I rarely venture out without a thermal long sleeved vest (Uniqlo Hitec), a jumper or top and a cardi or thick woolly.

I cannot imagine who wears a silk dress with a cardi over it- unless of course you work in a hot office.

I have very few summer clothes- a couple of skirts, pair of lighter trousers, a couple of dresses. These pack away on the top shelf of my wardrobe or I leave them hanging.

T shirts get worn all year round.

Jeans - ditto.

cardis and jumpers are in chest of drawers or wardrobe shelves all year round. i sell lots on ebay if they don't fit, are not fashionable any more, or if I just don't like them- so I am quite ruthless and don't hang onto things I don't wear.

I often wear silk dresses with a cardigan on top in Autumn or winter; I just layer a thermal t-shirt and cashmere-mix tights underneath!
