Weekend in Amsterdam

Girls weekend away. Leave on Friday (ferry) and have Saturday in Amsterdam before getting ferry back on Saturday night.

Amsterdam has funny weather in september. Could be warm but could be cold.

What would you take? I have virtually no winter/autumn clothing having lived in Aus so take me shopping!

So I need 3 days clothing plus something to wear on the Saturday night. I am hoping that a couple of pairs of jeans with boots/shoes might work but I can see me overloading on stuff.

I have good straightleg and boot cut (sorry!) jeans so shoes, tops and jacket or may be a nice knit with a lightweight rain jacket in my handbag? Help!

P.S I am a size 18 on top so large of nork. V necks are a must.

I would take two pairs of jeans: one for travelling in, one for going out in. If you do a weather check the day before and it transpires it will be warm, then swap the going out jeans for cotton trousers. Don't wear a maxi in Amsterdam. The idea of anything trailing on the floor in the city...........yeuch!

Flat shoes: one pair ballet flats, one pair sandals.

Top Shop had some great parka style lightweight rainmacs which fold down into handbag size for £20. None available on line now but try instore.

Thank you. Will check weather before we go as I think that will make the decision on ballet flats over converse or may be boots.

Avoid jeans or trousers that are over-long too - as per tulpe's comments re anything trailing on the floor in the city (you really don't want your clothes dragging along the pavement in Amsterdam - they have little 'weeing stations' in the street, but the wee doesn't always stay there, my jeans went white at the bottom and actually smelt of it!) It's a fab city though - jealous!

OMG. Boak. That means it will be my ankle boots with a heel will have to be worn. Most of my jeans are long. Either that or my knee highs with skinny jeans.

The one piece of advice from me is, wear shoes you can walk in! Them city streets are cobbled and uneven.

Love Amsterdam, have a great time!

never been so looking forward to it. Just going to have a wonder and see what we can see. Are there any nice markets around that are worth looking at?

It should be fine if it's not raining! Re markets - I haven't been for a few years but there are just gorgeous little streets to wander down, with interesting shops and lovely places to have coffee and beers, or a smoke if that's what tickles your fancy! Wink
