Pregnancy and Massages

I paid for a massage voucher prior to discovering I am pregnant. The voucher states 'Not suitable in pregnancy'. I spoke to the spa and it seems that the only reason for this is due to the massage table, but I have no sign of a bump. Do I need to worry about any aromatherapy oils or could I just attend the massage and keep quiet about the pregnancy. I am 12 wks.

Some oils you are supposed to avoid. Sometimes its an insurance thing too. I think its a load of boswellox personally but for oils sake you should probably come clean. Agree no bump is not a problem but if that's all it is they should probably agree to it...

I had a back and shoulder massage every week when I was pregnant. Good for me and good for the baby, very relaxing.

You should tell the masseuse because they probably would want to avoid the general uterus area, and as Tatty says there are some oils you should avoid.

It's an insurance thing mainly, although there are some oils that should definitely be avoided. I was given a spa voucher after I'd had DD and booked in for a massage. They wouldn't do it when I arrived as I was breastfeeding and it could "release toxins into the milk" and "risk the life of the baby"

Definitely should mention it to them. They need to avoid the lower back area. But they will still be able to accommodate you. Enjoy it! I'm jealous, could reallly do with a back massage right now at 28wks pg!
