re-plating white gold?

does anybody know if any of the big jewellery chains do this well and reliably?

i've asked around for a little local shop but nobody has any recommendations.. but where i live has all the usual chain stores.

i want to put my engagement ring in while i'm away for three weeks trekking (as i wouldn't be taking it anyway).

I think H Samuels do it but not sure about the others.

I take Dhs to H Samuels when it starts to get a little tarnished. They do a good job. It takes about a week. I can't remember how much it costs exactly but it's not much.

I got mine done at h samuals but after a 18 months it looks shit again so I'm scrapping it and buying gold gold.

I wish I'd got platinum instead :(

All the big jewellers do it. It will never last long, 18 months is a decent length of time for it to have lasted stupify when I worked at a jewellers we used to always tell customers to expect to need it doing about once a year to keep it looking good. There are ways to keep it looking good longer, like removing when washing hands, doing manual tasks etc, and everyone will find a slight difference due to their own skin acidity. I personally see it as something fab, if I had gold or platinum I'd get it professionally cleaned and polished once a year so it's only the same thing.

Ernest Jones also do it. I have to say it really annoys me having to get it done - DH chose my ring, and I love it, but if I'd have known about this replating thing I'd never have gond for white gold

Anyway, I've had rings re-plated at H Samuels and they were fine, you find most of the high street stores outsource their work to independent jewellers anyway so it may be worth giving some a ring so you can cut out the middle man and save some money!
I used to work in a jewellers and 18 months is a good length of time for the rhodium (the white gold cover over yellow gold) plating to last, its what we were told to advise customers of. It has nothing to do with being bad quality gold, just thats the nature of it.
