Leather Jacket

redbaubles · 19/07/2011 21:52

I've been thinking I'd like a leather jacket but have never seen one I like enough (I've not spent too long looking!) and also never sure whether the £ are worth it.

I like the button up, black one the girl is wearing here;

community.asos.com/blogs/spotted/post/?contentid=5836194803691145920

for the reason it is button up - it looks a bit more feminine. I know I don't want one that has a fabric ellasticated waist or cuffs or one with too many zips.

Any suggestions on where to start looking and things to look out for. Are they worth it? Will it last? Will it date? etc etc

TIA

I have a dispatch email so will hopefully get it tomorrow and I will let you know what it is like.

Or just order them all and decide Grin

Hey i used a cashback website(www.pouringpounds.com) to get a cahsback of abt 5.25% on all saints. If you want to join i can give my recommendation and you can earn a £5 on joining and other cashbacks on the purchase. Its quite cool and have shopped so i can guarantee it :)

archanat10 · 22/07/2011 09:37

Btw its still to be delivered. booked it yesterday :)

Butterbur · 22/07/2011 14:42

LaRedoute have some nice looking ones in their autumn/winter catalogue. I don't know what the quality is like though.

I second Mint Velvet having lovely soft leather. I have to fondle it every time I go past one of their concessions in ourlocal House of Fraser.

TragicallyHip · 22/07/2011 15:47

It's here!

It is very nice, soft leather.

I also ordered this. Lovely too so now I can't decide which one to keep!

redbaubles · 22/07/2011 19:44

Ooh that's good to know and good news TH!

I saw the second one you got and have been considering it but thought it might date a bit with the buttons the way they are. But the length looks better on that one and also the shoulders don't look so bulky.

What are the shoulders like on the other one - are they bulky? And do you think you would ever wear it without the sleeves?

OP posts:
TragicallyHip · 22/07/2011 20:16

This is what I can't decide on...

The length is better with the 2nd one and I prefer the sleeves but I am not overly keen on how it looks not zipped up. The 1st one I do prefer the front and it does look good but maybe a little short. It doesn't look too bulky to me but will have another try on.

How would you wear it without the sleeves? Confused

redbaubles · 22/07/2011 20:35

Thanks for reminding me - that was my other question! These coats that do up on the diagonal how do they sit when undone? Is there equal material on each side of the jacket? And so when you do it up it is double breasted? Does that make sense?

As for wearing without sleeves I was thinking maybe it would be useful in winter with layering ie. long sleeved black top underneath - not very adventurous I know! - but I cant think of how else?

I ordered this one as I know it looks good on and this one as it looks slightly longer to compare. They arrived today (just now) and will try on later.

TragicallyHip · 22/07/2011 20:57

Oh I see, I thought that you thought you could zip the sleeves off Grin

There is enough room to wear tops with long sleeves, just not thick ones. If you were wanting to do that you may want to go a size up.

Yes with the diagonal buttons you end up with flappy bits on both sides when undone. Some people may not mind that look tho. Dh wasn't one of them Grin

redbaubles · 22/07/2011 21:04

hang on - now Im confused! If you see the description it says 'detachable sleeves'...

www.tkmaxx.com/jackets+coats/black-worn-look-leather-jacket/invt/35024427/

so that's exactly what I meant 'zip the sleeves off'...

OP posts:
redbaubles · 22/07/2011 21:13

Do they not zip off?

OP posts:
TragicallyHip · 22/07/2011 21:14

Oh bloody hell I didn't see that! Will go check now..

redbaubles · 22/07/2011 21:14

Hi Morag - would be great to hear back esp. re the pockets on the chest area - I dont need any help in that area ;)

OP posts:
redbaubles · 22/07/2011 21:15

LOL!

OP posts:
TragicallyHip · 22/07/2011 21:18

Yes they do zip off! And no I doubt I would wear it like that. Well never say never... Grin

redbaubles · 22/07/2011 21:22

So as you didn't notice these zips I guess they don't add too much in bulk to the shoulder area? This and the length were 2 of the main things that worried me about this one....but it is such a good price!

OP posts:
TragicallyHip · 22/07/2011 21:25

Just tried it on again and it's definitely not bulky. You can't see the zips at all but yeah it is a little short.

Too many lovely Leather jackets...not enough money..

TragicallyHip · 22/07/2011 21:26

Sorry was going to say it looks good with dresses, not sure about trousers/jeans yet

redbaubles · 22/07/2011 21:38

Thanks for this - I can only imagine wearing it with dresses anyway. I'm off to look at la Redoute....

OP posts:
TragicallyHip · 22/07/2011 21:44

Post links if you find any fab ones!

blabalalalablabla · 22/07/2011 21:48

Can I throw this into the mix?

Ordered yesterday off the back of this thread and it arrived this afternoon - it's lovely - very soft leather - possibly shorter than I'd like at the back but then if its worn with dresses it doesn't really matter.

Am very pleased with it

blabalalalablabla · 22/07/2011 21:48

btw - am very impressed with tkmaxx delivery - less than 24 hours!

redbaubles · 22/07/2011 22:04

I'm not sure fab is the word I would use (although a lot of these are in the sale)
