I'm sure this has been asked a million times before - but what to wear for a christening? I am godmother

The christening is in Ireland in August. It will be quite a glam affair, the family are always dressed up to the nines. There are so many attending that the family have got a christening just for them (i.e. not shared with another family or taking place during a church service).
I have no idea what to wear, I have never been a christening before. I think there will be a lot more to come though as three of my good friends are pregnant .
I am 5'5" and a small size 8. I have dark brown shoulder length hair, fair skin and green eyes. I have small boobs and am quite straight up and down in general.

I like things that are quite comfortable. I hate having to hold my tummy in as it blows up like a balloon after I eat and my lovely friend's mum is doing a lunch at their house afterwards.

I would HUGELY appreciate any ideas of what to wear. I'll happily do a dress, skirt and top, jacket...whatever you think. Because I'm the godmother I assume I'll be holding the baby quite a bit so ideally something not too scratchy or buttony.

With your figure you can get away with almost anything! What is your budget?

I think I would pay up to £200 for a dress or a dress & jacket, maybe another £100 on shoes if necessary. I have beige patent peep toe shoes from lk bennett that seem to go with most things, and a jaeger bag that matches so am hoping I won't need to buy shoes or bag.

ahhh think you can afford much more than me, so i wouldnt know where to look for clothing at that price, sorry. (OMG thats 4 weeks food shopping for my family!!!!)

A lovely girl I used to babysit asked me to be her godmother when she reached 13yrs,.TTYe service was to be at the chapel near her grandmothers and lunch after. I was a student at the time and arrived in jeans, clean but still jeans.
Only found out as the taxi pulled into the deer park that 'granny' lived in a huge country house, rooms in the hundreds and it's own chapel.
Luckily my god daughter is the most lovely and down to earth girl and the 'family' didn't bat an eye.
Always easier to play down a smart outfit than jazz up jeans. I was mortified.

this is gorgeous on and would be super comfy. Surprisingly flattering on the tummy and would go well with your nude heels.

I like the LK Bennett dress and the red DVF dress, thanks ladies! I would need a jacket over the red one (Ireland being Ireland). Do you think I could wear black or would it totally kill the lovely red dress?

Black jacket might be a bit heavy, esp. as it is summer. Maybe a lighter colour to complement your nude shoes? If you are brave you could colour block with purple.
