what trousers can i wear with a cropped denim jacket?

i bought a lovely cropped denim jacket from topshop yesterday, its gorgeous and so flattering but i don't know what to wear it with because the only trousers i own are jeans

i have a couple of maxi dresses which it looks good with but i don't wear them very often so need something i can wear with it day to day.

i can't wear jeans with it can i ? am sure i have heard somewhere that double denim is Not A Good Look.

i do quite like both of them but i just can't do high waist trousers, i have a thing about things higher than my belly button
