Anyone fancy helping me find a dress for a wedding?

Hi, have been invite at quite short notice to a wedding. It's in 2 weeks! Have nothing to wear!

Need a dress which is a size 10, quite fitted (no empires as they make me look like a blob as I'm short), knee length or slightly shorter, obviously black or white are out of bounds.

I don't suit peaches/oranges/lime greens/orangey red or anything like that. DO suite, all blues/turquoise/greys/bright pink.

Any ideas? I don't know where to start as it's been so long since I bought anything new!

I like lace but not ruffles so much as they bulk me out. Oh and no halter necks (make my arms look huge!)

Can anyone help?

Budget?

PrettyMeerkat · 10/07/2011 17:18

Oops sorry, missed out the important bit. Skint but treating myself, so still need to keep it low. Could spend up to £30 without feeling sick but the less the better really!

Was going to look on Ebay but you never know!

I think this is quite pretty, perhaps a bit casual but could be glammed up with some nice shoes/accessories?

CeliaFate · 10/07/2011 17:33

This looks more expensive than it is and is smart enough for a wedding.

ThePopsicleKat · 10/07/2011 17:35

white but not too white IYSWIM

Sorry that was referring to Popsicals first find. That second link is the debenhams home page.

Celia I like the shift dress, I have one similar in black, but thought it might be too hot in a couple of weeks for long sleeves so was going to wear a dress and little cardie.

pink or blue

CeliaFate · 10/07/2011 17:41

I like the last dress you linked to. The other two I'd say the first isn't dressy enough for a wedding and the second is a bit bland (and over budget). The indigo dress looks dressy and the colour is lovely.

ThePopsicleKat · 10/07/2011 17:42

Love the blue Dorothy Perkins dress, very reasonably priced too.

ThePopsicleKat · 10/07/2011 17:43

*Indigo, not blue Blush

ThePopsicleKat · 10/07/2011 17:46

Another asymmetric one God there's a lot of rubbish in the shops at the moment.

PrettyMeerkat · 10/07/2011 17:47

The wrap dress is nice Pop.

Celia The second one I like because of the dots it has on the hem and top sheer sections. Think it might not be fitted enough on the waist though.

Yeah it can be really hard when the thing that is in fashion doesn't suit you/or me. Like the years of empire lines! Nightmare!

OP posts:
ThePopsicleKat · 10/07/2011 17:52

I never understood why people insist empire lines are flattering for bigger girls (not that you're big). I've always found they make you look pregnant unless you're super-skinny.

PrettyMeerkat · 10/07/2011 17:54

Love the colour of this one

www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Tulip-Dress-with-Tie-Back/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=1381051&cid=8799&Rf-300=1944&Rf-800=-1,30.000&Rf-200=3&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Skyblue

but it looks too short for a wedding. I think there is an unwritten rule about short dresses isn't there. Plus don't really have the legs for it without tights!

I know! I am not big but am curvy so have boobs, bum and slightly chubby arms. So if I don't show off my small waist then I look like I don't have one and it make me look a lot chubbier!

Also always hate 80s revivals.

Very pretty dress, but probably wouldn't go too well with tights, for a summer wedding anyway.

You sound pretty similar to me...i'm 5"4, a size 8 -10 but very curvy so baggy, shapeless things do nothing for me. Life must be so much easier being a man...suit for formal occasions, smart shirt and nice jeans for 'smart-casual', any old T-shirt and jeans for anything else. Sigh.
