primers / chantecaille/ laura mercier etc

Looking at primers I came across this
serious money

and I have heard good things about this but am not entirely convinced
Laura Mercier oil free

Ideally I would like to avoid heavily silicon based products. The L'oreal one is very silicony as is the Clarins one.

Today I am trying this one philosophy supernatural

Anyway so I just wondered if anyone has any thoughts RE primers and which you prefer, what you think about silicons and if you have any reccomendations or sciency business to help me understand what the hell is in the chantecaille primer to make it so bloody expensive.

A bit of background: I am a makeup artist and have always relied on various powders to 'set' makeup and for longevity but I am looking at other 'avenues' and am very interested in products, not just from a professional point of view but in terms of what women like / feel comfortable using. I don't like using powder on myself, though I do like using mineral makeup, hence the interest in primers.

The GOSH primer is pretty good - but not if youre trying to avoid silicony ones Fairy cheap though so worth a pop.

They seem to me to either be like PVA glue (No 7 for example) or heavily siliconed like the Gosh one, I haven't really got along with either. I am impressed with the Gosh eye primer in a stick though, really does work.

Yes agreed gosh v good and cheap but silicony.

Ah, I was going to suggest MAC spf 50 prep and prime, but it is exactly like PVA glue. I adore it though, keeps my my oilyness contained and my foundation firmly on my face. And despite being like glue, I can't actually feel it on my face, and it doesn't cause break outs.

I worry about getting white bits on my face with the No 7 one, it does do the job but if you don't get it rubbed in quickly and the right thickness you get dry white bits

Never quite sure about the principle behind the silicone ones, surely the silicone just makes the make-up slide off your face? I bought the Gosh one a couple of weeks ago and am definitely undecided as to whether it makes any difference or not, I don't tend to wear foundation much in summer.

I like the Clarins one .

Didn't like the Laura Mercier one when I tried it.
