Boys jeans - hard-wearing knees?

I'd admit it, I do like to by my DS nice jeans. Normally Gap, but try to stock up when there are 30% discount vouchers floating around.

Now I'm wondering, why do I bother?! He is 3.9 and fond of sliding around on his knees. As a result almost all his jeans/trousers either have holes or are thinning at the knees.

Two questions:

Any tips for salvaging said jeans?
Can anyone recommend a brand that seems to be a bit more robust (classic shapes, darkish, even colours)?

Thanks!

Agree with wimpy- H&M jeans are brilliant.
