What is your biggest style error??

Apart from my current wardrobe, which is a major tragedy in itself, I have got a whole list, all of which are as bad as another. The list includes

Pixie Boots
Leg Warmers
Global Hypercolour (no no no no no)
Nice pretty floral dress, but worn with heavy black tights and clumpy doc martens, and black choker (circa 1993)
A really short, really tight black skirt, worn with a massive men's white shirt. (Bad enough, let alone the fact I have legs like tree trunks.)
Anything I wore in my 1st year at uni (including a wooly Peruvian type bobble hat with ear covers, a pair of huge purple flares and a pair of clogs which I got from a charity shop, and looked like a crap 70's tablecloth)

I've always been a style void. The way I get round it these days is to wear non descript clothes.

So, tell me about the rancid clothes you have worn in the past......

There was a girl in my class at school whose Mum wouldn't let her get a full perm, but let her perm her effing fringe. She looked a right wally.

Join the club, my dear.

And, for the record, I bet you don't look like shit!!!

most of the clothes I have ever worn in my life. but I was young in the 80s and then had no money in the 90s.

To be fair, I don't think anyone was stylish in either the 80s or the 90s.

um, not having the guts to just DO IT & wear whatever i fancy - which i reckon would look better than the playsafe jeans/boots/polo neck/t-shirt combo. fat chance now tho these days!

intergalacticwalrus · 19/11/2005 22:08

OOh, yes. I'd wish for that if I found a genie in a bottle. Hoever, the chances of that are slim, unlike me!

Stripey dungarees as a curvy 19 year old were probably my worst ever disaster. Am really ed of those!
Also looked totally awful at a very lovely friend's wedding quite recently- well, a couple of years or so ago. Was skint and had nothing suitable and desperately concocted an outfit at the last minute that was as unflattering as it was unwedding like. Looked like a sort of dumpy secretary trying too hard. Not good.
Had blue suede pixie boots which I loved as a young teenager. And stripey leg warmers.

starlover · 19/11/2005 22:10

ha! I did it and wore whatever the hell I liked... some people may say i made many "style" errors... but i have nevber wanted to be the height of fasjhion and don't regret anything i have ever worn

intergalacticwalrus · 19/11/2005 22:10

Oh god, I forgot about the stone wash jeans and white reebok baseball boots I lived in for about 5 years. Horrid beyond belief

OP posts:
ScummyMummy · 19/11/2005 22:13

Yes- had stone wash jeans too! And tried to have a flick but my hair stubbornly agreed with my mum that it was not a good look for me and kept reverting to non-flicked stylelessness. (No change there then, though a no longer wish for a flick!)

roosmum · 19/11/2005 22:14

good on you SL! don't think i have the brain power these days to even THINK about clothes...if it's clean, it's ok! must add hastily - never sink to trainer/fleece outfit hated in MN style shop...that would be a style error

find it helps if you only buy stuff that's simple/fairly funky, reduces chances of coming out withi something horrific because - it's the only thing left that's clean/first thing you grabbed!!

Nightynight · 19/11/2005 22:14

god yes I had stonewash jeans as well, til I saw a photo of myself in them

starlover · 19/11/2005 22:19

actually... i had a vile fleece that i wore when i was pregnant because my winter coat didn't fit (ds was born in feb) and there was no way i was shelling out for a new coat!

Serah · 19/11/2005 22:30

Effortless style and beauty is just a fallacy, dreamt up to make anyone who doesn't spend 12 hours a day plucking, polishing and waxing feel not only like a failure but also a yeti.

I have a horrible feeling there was a period in my life where my mum condescended to my having a perm... so long as it was only my fringe. Do I know you intergalacticwalrus??????

intergalacticwalrus · 19/11/2005 22:31

Mmm, you aren't from Birmingham are you Serah?

OP posts:
intergalacticwalrus · 19/11/2005 22:32

Because the girl in qyuestion was actually called Sarah...............

OP posts:
Serah · 19/11/2005 22:50

Aaarghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

No.

Used to "go out" with someone from Stourbridge though. Long past my perm days thankfully

intergalacticwalrus · 19/11/2005 22:59

Phew, glad you aren' here, as ahe was a bit of a knob, tbh. She did have a pair of Reebok Pumps (the ones with the air pump in) which I really coveted.

OP posts:
intergalacticwalrus · 19/11/2005 23:02

like these ewwwwwwwwwww. God, how I nagged my mum for a pair

Black and white big checked shirt worn with skintight jeans and a plastic red bead necklace around 1983-4. Shudder.
The haircut that my mum made me have for my so-called birthday treat in 1983 - a lady diana short flick/sweep thing. Cried buckets over that one.
Three quarter length jeans with baseball boots and a batwing jumper.
Side ponytail.
Purple tie-dye spandex leggings complete with blim holes, accompanied by 3 pairs of socks and para boots 2 sizes too big. Topped off with a crochet jumper that came to my knees and purple and blue semi-dreadlocks.
Actually, I quite miss that last one.
