If I shave legs after a spray tan will I shave the tan off?!

I'm trying to figure out how to time this! Am going to be a bridesmaid when dd2 is 9wks EEK and think a spray tan might help the general sorry state of affairs. Wedding is a sat, we stay overnight at the venue on the fri. So I'm thinking first thing Friday or Thursday pm for the tan, but my legs would need shaved again by sat am! Will I scrape off all the tan?!

Am not an experienced 'spray-tanner', but would think not as long as you have exfoliated well before you have the spray tan.

Could you spring for a legwax, and then get spray tanned the next day? That way you might not need to shave again before the wedding.

galletti · 16/06/2011 14:34

Yes, unfortunately I think you will shave off the tan! Shave Thursday night, tan Friday morning? Would you really have to shave again for Saturday?

Earlybird · 16/06/2011 14:34

So - maybe leg wax on Tues/Wed and spray tan on Wed/Thurs?

galletti · 16/06/2011 14:34

Oh ok, different view! Yes, what about a wax?

Caz10 · 16/06/2011 14:49

Am embarrassed to admit have NEVER had my legs waxed! Wedding in 4wks don't know if that is long enough away? Also would be worried in case I had a bad reaction to the wax?!

Just wear brown socks instead.

peanutsmuggler · 16/06/2011 14:55

Get some of that Rimmel instant tan leg make up stuff, then if it goes patchy when you shave you can even it out again.

Caz10 · 16/06/2011 15:47

Bored techlovingdad?!

Good idea re the rimmel, thank you!

I would leave at least 2 days between wax and tan as the tan gives me little dots of darker colour in the (empty) hair follicle area.

Don't think you'd shave too much tan off with one go but after this my knees go patchy. Can't you try the everyday gradual tans now and experiment - I think these look more natural and you can build them up to which colour you want?
Actually , you prob can't be faffed if DD is less than 9wks!!!

tak1ngchances · 16/06/2011 15:56

Be warned: Rimmel over patchy fake tan looks patchy.
Best thing to do is exfoliate like a mofo 4 days before and 2 days before fake tan application. Then either wax or shave early morning of fake tan application.
Do the fake tan at night. You must be sober at this point. Have another shower and then dry yourself thoroughly. Then apply the fake tan ideally using either latex gloves or a fake tan mitt.
Do your whole body or your legs will be a different colour to the rest of you.

If you apply fake tan and then shave you will definitely shave off some of the tan.

Rimmel only is another option but if it rains or you spill any liquid on yourself it will run straight off.

HTH

Ooh this is COMPLICATED!!

Baby only 5 weeks just now, so drunkenness probably not going to happen although that made me Grin Grin! But also not much opportunity for prep either...

So would this work- after much exfoliating, shave legs thursday pm, spray tan Friday am, wedding sat with no shave in between?!

Caz10 · 17/06/2011 19:15

Shuddering a bit at thought of thurs-sat no shave...

Depends how fast your hair grows Caz. If I did that I'd have 5 o'clock shadow for the wedding. But you may be less hirsute than me!

Caz10 · 17/06/2011 21:53

V hard to tell atm, it all went a bit mad during pregnancy! Will do a trial run and see how hairy my legs get lol!

Shave Friday morning, tan Friday afternoon and shimmy about looking brown on Saturday?

StrawberryMewMew · 17/06/2011 23:44

Speaking from experience, you will shave the tan off. And the Rimmel stuff looks orange on.

thenightsky · 17/06/2011 23:49

lawks. Wear tights?

littledolly · 18/06/2011 08:36

I always shave after tanning. I find that as long as I use a good razor and keep moisturising well I've no problems.

Caz10 · 18/06/2011 09:52

Oh hope from littledolly!

The do it all on Friday plan is the best, but we are meant to be packing up both Dds and driving to the venue thAt day- dh may file for divorce if I swanny off in the middle of it to get tanned!

Are tights still socially acceptable?!! That is absolutely what I would have done in the past, but thought it was all bare legs now!

wendihouse22 · 18/06/2011 13:15

Yes.....you will remove the top layer of skin cells and with it, the tan. May also make tan appear patchy. Shave let's the day before. Or use wash off tanner.

wendihouse22 · 20/06/2011 09:47

That's one reason many men have such good skin....all that shaving action!

Feggy · 20/06/2011 21:26

Epilate rather than shaving? Lasts much longer than shaving with only minor ouch factor (I find it less sore than waxing). Any missed hairs can then gently be razored.
