Where to shop for tweenage daughter.

DD is 10 and I'm struggling to find nice clothes for her now. Next have gone so downhill quality wise I've just about given up with them.

Have ordered a few bits from Boden for her. She likes H&M, Gap but we don't have them in a 40 mile radius of us.

Have just seen that River Island do kids clothes online which I never knew. But they seem to stop at age 10 so not much use.

Any suggestions?

Lands End have just started doing some nice kids clothes - good quality and if you look at their sale stuff not too pricey.

BTW - GAP now do online shopping in the UK (which I know must be a fairly recent thing).

My DD (11) loves New Look. They do a proper early teenager range (up to age 14 I think.

It's difficult, isn't it. DD is 11, and we have the same problem. There's New Look, which has some stuff for that sort of age. Or the supermarkets, but you never know what the quality's going to be like (and you have to pick and choose the styles carefully!). Debenhams sometimes has some OK stuff, but a limited selection.

DD1 loves Superdry. She's a fairly petit 11yo and their XS fits her really well. The best bit is that their delivery is free. Fantastic quality on everything we've had so far. Not very girly though, if that's what she's after.

She likes Johnny B stuff too, but that's probably the Boden stuff you mean.

H&M do online shopping now too

You can order on-line from Gap. Zara are quite good for jeans but the rest is getting a bit twee now. Agree about New Look. Other than that my dd a teenager on Saturday is into Jack Wills (although I refuse to buy anything from there, she has to with her own money which means not very often as it is overpriced tat), Hollister (hate the shop but don't mind it soo much as they always seem to have a reduced bit where t-shirts are £10/£12) and Superdry.

I didn't mean to write Gap although you can order from them. I should have said H & M are on-line now too.

Never thought of New Look, not been in there in years. Just had a look online and I think she'd like a lot of their stuff. Not so sure she'd like the Lands End things.

Will check out Superdry as well. I had been wondering what sort of age they stop wearing kids clothes and go into small sizes of adults. I think she'll need to grow a bit for adult trousers yet but xs, or size 6 tops might fit I suppose.

£45 for a checked shirt which would be about £7 in h&m.

DD is 10, we do gap and H&M online, Zara is also pretty good for basic separates.

Fatface is another one and you can do it online. TBH, we do 90% of her clothes shopping online as we don't have a great selection of shops near us.

Marking my place/watching with interest, as have the same dilemma for my very tall 10 year old dd.

She's too tall for children's sizes and too immature for teen/adult styles (which can be too sophisticated/revealing and/or too drab with endless navy, cream, grey, black, etc). It really is a big gap in the market, imo.

I have a bit of an aversion to online clothes shopping which I think I'm going to have to overcome. We don't have a Zara near us either but do have a Fat Face.

I didn't realise h&m were online now so thats good to know.

T K Maxx can turn up some one off gems, if you are prepared to rake.

Definetly a huge gap in the market.

My DD (11) now fits into an adult size 6 so it makes shopping a little easier.

Basic bits like vests, t shirts, leggings etc we get from Primark - as she's growing still and they are cheap it doesn't matter that they don't last long.

H &M are her favourite for jeans .

Other bits come from any shops that sell a size 6 - I'm lucky she likes bargains and makes sure she gets lots for the money , and I'm lucky that she is a fairly casual dresser - and doesn't like the clothes that are too inappropriate for her to wear.

Just recently though she has started to get interested in making clothes, so we've got some plain t-shirts and vests from Primark that she's adding to herself with crafty bits and pieces, and she's on the hunt for a nice pattern and material to make something for herself.

I jut got my neice who is 10 a lovely maxi dress from M&S...with small graphic butterflies all over it...appropiate and cool...she lves it. There were other things I saw too.

And the High Street shops - Top Shop (I think it is expensive) and Dorothy Perkins.

New Look is not too expensive - the quality is not brilliant but she grows out of stuff so quickly.

11 yo DDs clothes tend to be a mixture from most of the High St stores but her favourites are probably Fat Face and H&M.

She also loves the hand-me-down stuff that she gets from my god-daughter which is mainly New Look but not a lot of the stuff in there fits her yet as shes quite tiny.

I have the same problem with my DD. She loves Hollister, Superdry, Jack Wills but seeing as though we're not made of money, the bulk of her clothes come from H&M - athough we have the same problem as you in that we have to travel to the bigger stores.

I'm actually a big fan of George at Asda clothes. Some of the stuff is hit & miss, but a lot of it is really lovely and very good quality. I got a maxi dress in there for her at the weekend for £6! The basics are v reasonable.

Otherwise, Debenhams - Blue Zoo (their own brand) Rocha John Rocha, Matthew Williamson butterfly, Ted Baker. DD has some lovely stuff from there.

New Look have 9-12 range and BHS have Tammy which I used to wear at that age I'm 32 now :)
