Highlights disaster :-(

I've just come back from the hairdresser from having my roots redone with highlights. It's a disaster. I've gone from being blondish to platinum blonde with large chunks missed out altogether. Even my very diplomatic husband said as I walked through the door 'It's very blonde, isn't it'.

Am going to try to make another appt at a different hairdressers later this week but is there anythign that I can do in the meantime?

Thanks :(

Go back and get them to sort it out.

apple99 · 14/06/2011 13:24

Go back to the salon or call them, they should sort it for you free of charge. I wouldn't pay to go somewhere else to have it re-done.

valiumredhead · 14/06/2011 18:48

No way would I trust someone who'd done THAT to my hair to put it right!

valiumredhead · 14/06/2011 18:50

I would ring and complain/ask for money back and go somewhere who specialises in colour correcting. Good luck, it's rotten when your hair isn't as you like it.

TattyDevine · 14/06/2011 18:50

You could go back and ask to see a different colour technician and ask them to lowlight it back to your standard, then find somewhere else for next time.

You should not have to pay twice, they should not get away with it, if nothing else they should know you are not happy and why for quality control purposes.

Where is Angryfeet - she had the same problem last month, and lived to tell the tale, and will hopefully appear with supportive words!

TattyDevine · 14/06/2011 18:51

There are things you can do in the meantime if you can't face it, don't have the time but don't want to show yourself at work.

What is your base colour? What is the overall hue of blonde you are trying to achieve? Try and be descriptive as possible, giving a celebrity as an example or attaching a pic if possible.

Then I'll tell you a temporary product you can slap over the top.

TattyDevine · 14/06/2011 18:55

Gotta go cook in a minute so was just going to say often something like This will cover over anything too scary in the meantime and give you a more toned down beigey blonde tone, and is 8 wash so really is temporary so you could get it out when you are able to go back to a hairdresser by simply having a big hair-wash with some clarifying shampoo.

valiumredhead · 14/06/2011 18:57

Actually I remember using Nice n easy Ash blonde when a home dye disaster turned my hair the colour of Big Bird's! It worked well!

TattyDevine · 14/06/2011 18:57

Some of these Wella ones would be okay depending on your tone, but stay away from the ash ones if you are too blonde - you might go a bit silver or purple otherwise, you'd be better off being beigey for a week.

TattyDevine · 14/06/2011 18:58

That's true Valium if she is too yellow - or brassy - I can definitely recommend some purple shampoos or even an ash rinse - though I think she's too fair overall...

Thanks everyone. I've got an appointment at 9am on Friday so am going to brazen it out until then. Surprisingly noone has yet mentioned it to my face :)

Feeling a bit more normal now, was a little, erm, emotional yesterday. I've never cried over my hair before - ridiculous really.

That sort of thing has happened many times to me before, I'm embarrassed to say. As a young whipper snapper, I had a tendency to go into a salon and say 'I fancy a colour change' and then end up with something garish that didn't suit me. I always went back to the same salon, cringeing, and they tended to either highlight it up if it was too dark, or put a toner over the top if it was too light.

Good luck cairnterrier, and don't feel embarrassed about the emotion, its a huge part of our identity, our appearance

cairnterrier · 17/06/2011 14:27

Hurrah! Am now back to being blonde with nice subtle highlights like I've just been out in the sun Grin

I am off to have mine done tomorrow - hope I don't need to bump this thread tomorrow.......... eek!

Did you go to a new salon OP?

cairnterrier · 18/06/2011 13:42

Yep a new salon and a lovely young man called Ben. Ended up having to have my roots blended in again and the rest of my hair dyed darker but it looks fab now and am soooooooo happy. It's pathetic really! Hope yours go well valium and that we get the sunshine so that we can get out and about with our fabulous new 'dos.
