Where can I get a nice cheap prom dress for an 11 year old?

Yes, I know Proms for kids etc etc

Anyway. Primary school does a leavers prom. I think we're fairly lucky compared to some as no-one wants "Big fat gypsy wedding" dresses or limo's. It's just a nice do, held at a local nice hotel rather than the school hall.

She wants something along these lines however none in her size online or in store. Acceptable colours are black or silver. Can't be too costly. I don't really want to spend more than about £40

There's not much in the way of good shops round here. I've tried bhs/debenhams/next/h&m/and local dress agencies.
Obviously I've got my eye on a few things on ebay, but I'm having a baby on wednesday and may be stuck in hospital for a few days.

Help!

HettyAmaretti · 11/06/2011 18:07

ruffled satin but teal not strapless.

HettyAmaretti · 11/06/2011 18:09

FFS, damn Flash. Was this the dress?

AlmightyCitrus · 11/06/2011 20:41

That was it Hetty.

I didn't think of M&S. It's nice but her size is out of stock.
Emo 11 year old has just raised an eyebrow at spotty and teal!

Do you have a TKMaxx? Or Republic (at this time of year clothes are probably not v. prommy but you can get trendy dresses quite cheaply, stuff like this).

AlmightyCitrus · 12/06/2011 16:25

Ooh, nice suggestions. Thanks!

She tried that debenhams dress on Hetty, but in real life it's not so nice. Looks like a vest and a skirt with a big thick elastic waist.

A couple of the new look suggestions seem to have hit the mark, and there is a shopping centre about an hour away with a new look, open till 9 in the week, so I think we might drive down tomorrow after school.

Glad there wasn't all this palaver when I was at school, although at 11 you'd of not got me within 100 yards of a frilly frock! Grin
