A really good foundation anyone?? (Estee lauder doublewear been recommended)

Doublewear is good if you want to look like your wearing a mask. I like Chanel Vitalumiere, Bobbi Brown - most of them and Laura Mercier oil free if your combination/oily.

I love doublewear. But my skin is terrible.

i use doublewear and i def don't look like i am wearing a mask.

i wear foundation every day but use it sparingly, applying it with my fingers. if i am going out in the evening (or just making more than my usual 2 minute effort) i apply it with a foundation brush.

i often get complimented on my good skin - my skin is ok but not spectacularly so. i am pretty good at applying make up though!

I like Bare Minerals powder foundation - the trial kit for £45 is good value. It's very light and I found I got less spots using it.

But I'm now about to try Clarins Skin illusion foundation after really liking a magazine sample - feels really sheer and light.

If you have time go and try some. Say you want to see how they last the day on your skin before you buy or ask for a sample. Any sales woman worth her commission should see sense and either slap some on you or proffer a sample

I am currently wearing clinique superfit but find it disappears through the day, but am on maternity leave so usually get slimed by my 7 month old before then and it's not worth the effort to reapply.

Lancome Teint(?) Miracle is really lovely. Good coverage but still looks v v natural

I like Shu Uemura - it is very light and the effect is similar to Dior Nude but better

I love Doublewear.

If you feel the coverage is a bit heavy for daytime, mix it with a bit of foundation and use it like a tinted moisturiser. That's what I do.

Mix it with a bit of moisturiser I mean.

Doublewear Light is a sheerer version with the same amount of staying power, I use it in summer and switch to the original for autumn/winter and nights out etc

Estee Lauder will give you a 7 day sample of any foundation which will give you a good chance to test it out. Why not ask for a sample of doublewear and the doublewear light?

I have Estee Lauder Nutritious and it has a very natural coverage, easy to apply and stays put.

Yes, get a sample. ELDW can look cakey. You need a really good base underneath and good application. I mix it with MAC pro longwear to get a nice finish with good coverage, and put Avene Cleanance underneath with Cetaphil moisturiser.

The Lancome one is nice too - Teinte idole ultra.

The best foundation is supposed to be that Suqqu stuff isnt it?

I don't know why anyone bothers with tinted moisturiser. Maybe it's just me and the TMs I've tried, but if your skin is good enough to use a TM why bother with foundation?? They seem to have basically no coverage?

Just remembered when I was over-dosing on all the royal wedding info I did read that Kate used Lancome Teint Miracle. Well if it's good enough for a Princess........

Foundation is such a personal thing:
firstly I think you need to know your skin type - i.e. if it's oily or combination DO NOT buy anything that says "moisurising", "anti aging", "iluminating" or "luminous" or you will shine. On the other hand if you have dry skin these will be good and you should avoid anything matte.
Secondly get colour matched - the main problem with foundations is that if they don't match your skin so you will look made up. Mac and Bobbi brown specialise in "yellow based" foudataions which apparently is what most people need, not pink based ones which is what seem to be sold by nearly every other brand. Basically if you tan you need yellow based and if you burn you need pink based.
Thirdly application - it does look less made-up if you use a damp sponge or brush and you will also use less of the foundation as it will be a thinner and more blended application. You can mist your face with water to get a really even and thin coverage and build up additional coverage if needed. If you have birth marks, scars or a lot of blemishes you might want higher coverage, but even then using a concealer or additional foundation just on the areas you want more coverage for may look better than simply applying a heavy coverage over your whole face. If you want high coverage and a matt finish for say, wedding photographs - and especially if you have oily or combination skin, go for a "studio", "photo finish" or matte foundation but be aware than in harsher lighting you may look a bit over done to the naked eye even though on camera your skin will look very natural. I made a special trip to Manchester just to get colour matched for Mac foundation and i must say I'm really impressed. The colour match is brilliant, you really can't see where my skin and foundation meet, so no need to worry about blending in like mad around chin/neck etc. I got the pro long wear which suits my combination skin type and it is great. Looks really natural yet stays on all day and does not rub/wipe off on clothes etc.

Mac tinted moisturiser, its fab coverage and very light. Mac foundation,brill coverage. Mac face and body foundation, light and natural.
