jeans - what length?

just bought some jeans from Gap, ankle length - they seemed okay in the shop, but since I've been wearing them, they now seem too short, esp. with boots. The problem is the "regular" length are too long and drag on the floor and get worn 'n' wet.
I love the fit of the ankle ones apart from the length. Would a tailor's be able to take the hem down for me and it look okay?

might show the different color in the hem re darker blue if they were taken down

better to buy longer and get a tailor to take them up

I had the same problem with Gap ankle length - they seemed to ride up with wear. I have around a 27" inside leg and got a pair of Per Una short the other week. Is there much hem to let down ?
