Rigby and Peller

I'm planning on going to Rigby and Peller to take a look at their bras in mind of getting one for my wedding.

Are they worth the money? Will they give me fabulous boobs?

I'm 38g (I think!) and I hate some bras.. some push them down too much (I like va-va-voom), some make them too pointy etc.. so yes, I'm fussy!

Any experiences/ opinions welcome!

I got fitted for a fabulous corsety-type thing for under my wedding dress at R&P but you could see the boning through the silk dress so had to end up buying an ugly lycra thing elsewhere instead. I would say just go for whatever is suitable for your dress but R&P do have lovely things.

I only went the once.

I was happy with the bra, its OK, does the job !

But ... I had to stand naked up from the waist whilst the assistant 'measured' me ... and then bend over whilst she fastened it

Loads of others on here said I'd been done.

I went to R&P to get a bra for my wedding. I have a friend who swears by them. I actually ended up with something that didn't fit & I couldn't wear on the day. Partly my fault as I felt it didn't fit when I was trying it on but since the saleslady said it was great I didn't speak up... So to me, it wasn't worth the money. But like I said, I know some people swear by them.

I always go to them -have for years - and highly recommend them . Have never failed me yet. Well worth the money.

I went once, nearly 10 years ago. I think it was the one next to Harrods.

They were lovely. Found a nice bra for my small boobs and told me about other brands that would suit me.

TBH I didn't mind the hands on approach. The saleslady didn't even measure me, she just looked at my boobs and knew the size. But she did adjust the bra for me.

There was a photo of the Queen in my changing room too.

I live in Ireland but go there once a year. They changed my shape and how I looked so much!
Personally I don't care that they "look" at your boobs to measure you-they are only boobs!

DO IT! I went last week to get a bra for my wedding day. Wish I'd done it earlier... Having a bra that fits perfectly is such a treat for me.

They are brilliant - I went to be fitted for both maternity and nursing bras, and they were fab. I ended up buying only one from them, (pricey!) but it was good to know my size properly. Am planning to go back before I go back to work to get the zeppelins remeasured!

Am now wondering how bra fitters in places other than R and P manage to do their job properly if they never see you with naked boobs, or fasten bras for you ...

Definitely go! Wearing a well fitted bra has changed my shape and my posture - I have even reclaimed the area where my waist line should be! The lady who fitted me explained that most people who wore badly fitting bras were wearing them too large across the back and too small in the cup size. I went from a 38D to a very splendid 34GG. There was no hard sell either - although I did buy 2 reasonably priced bras. Feel much more confident about buying from other places now - except M & S who really don't do it for girls with assets like mine!

I also went b4 wedding and bought a bra, a corset and magic pants. I didn't wear the pants on the day, but did wear the bra and corset. Caution, my friend got me into said corset, but DH could not get me out...

I also went for my wedding underwear, they were so lovely and not at all snooty about my complete lack of boob assets and the fact I was dressed in scruffy clothes. (I'm from the north and had been labouring at Chelsea garden festival and went straight there to get a proper fitting) They got me a lovely basque thing and and steered me away from more pricey models because they said they would not fit my shape. Can't recommend them enough.

Would agree that R and P are very good, however there are many branches now and although all staff I'm sure must be trained, I have noticed a huge difference in the quality of advice given. I guess my advice would be to ensure you have a degree of confidence of what "look" you are trying to achieve before you strip off. I am slightly puzzled by the Queen. Widely recognised as Rigby and Peller's top customer etc, etc. At the moment I just want to shout "tighten up your straps ma'am, they are approaching your waist"

I went post birth wearing 36e. Was measured as 32h, by sight, but tried a few on to refine sizing and lady said 34h, which seemed really tight. I was v sceptical, but trusted her when she said they always go for v snug fit.
I got two bras, underwired for day and not for night. When I got home I regretted it and was going to return them, but decided to give it a go. I wore them with just the top two of three clasps done up for about a fortnight, after which they have fitted perfectly, and feel great since then (about three months now).

Really glad I did it...money well spent, and I feel really good in tightish clothes now, as my breasts are firmly on my chest.
One of the bras she suggested was £35 so not too expensive, but the ones I picked were £50 each. I would definitely go again.

another fan here! The fitting is superb and the fitter can advise on what suits your shape/ needs best etc... The range is outstanding- nay, mind-boggling. My best T-shirt bra (M&S can't touch this in quality), low cut for low v-necks bra, pretty pink bra, really light but supportive bra... all from R&P.

Bit at their prices though! 77 quid for a bra!

Selks, I was expecting to spend fifty quid a pop, but that was more expensive than most of the bras she suggested to try, so they stock cheaper ranges, and no pressure or snootiness about the bras I was looking at.

They devote 45mins of one to one time with a member of their staff to measure, based on their experience, and then fetch and carry as many bras you wish to try, and advise on each one. You can get cheaper bras elsewhere, but I think it's reasonable to speak to them first on the phone to see if they stock your price range, and then ask them to stick to that.
Also, you could decide to not buy anything at all...you are not committing yourself!
I've been for fittings in m and s and in la senza, and they just use measuring tapes over your existing bra, and have never done a good job...I need them to fit my breasts...not my breasts stuffed into an already bAdly fitting bra!
As I said, I was sceptical even after I bought the bras, but turns out they were right, and I would expect they probably have good returns/after sales care, but I dudnt need that in the end, so I can't comment.

I would however be interested to see what others say if they returned stuff they felt they had been badly advised on, as I hope to use them again, and wouldn't like to get stuck with an unsuitable purchase.

There was a proper liveried doorman at the London one I went to.
And lots of little drawers filled with wonderful underwear.

Something to go and do at least once...just to experience a different sort of customer service.

Another fan. Yes, they do measure you naked from the waist up, and by eye only. Totally professional and didn't make me feel in the least bit uncomfortable despite decidedly less than gorgeous (bf 3 dc) breasts. They do fit very snugly across the back, but are meant to fit this way as it keeps everything in place. It also accounts for the natural stretching of material that happens across the back of a bra. The thing that I was impressed by was that not only were they getting a bra to fit my size, (eg around the chest and cup size) but were considering style as well. That is, finding a style that will fit the whole breast so there aren't gappy bits at the top or bulgy bits where there shouldn't be.
It might feel a bit strange at first, but the end result is far more flattering than any other bra I have owned. If you go to the Mayfair branch (particularly Saturday) bring a book and be prepared for a wait (30-45 min) and prices of £35 - £50 or more per bra.

This might be a silly question but do they do knickers to match? I hate it if I have to have un co ordinated underwear on for what ever reason.

Lots of lovely matching stuff.
Although I'm not 100% sure that every bra has matching knickers - so you may find your favourite/best fitting/most flattering bra isn't part of a set.

But I'm sure if you tell them you are only interested in sets - then that is all they will show you.

Ah, I'll warn my Mum (who's also coming) that you have to get your tits out, I'm sure she won't mind, they'll have seen a million before!

We're going to go to the Knightsbridge one I think, and make an appointment.. the only thing I was worried about was that I've heard a couple of people say they don't always have everything in stock.. but after such glowing reviews I'll give it a go!

sooz28, I'm getting the dress made so they'll fit around the bra.

I'm more excited for my mum to be honest, she's not been measured in YEARS and I'm always telling her she's wearing the wrong size. I think it will be a revelation for her.
