To wax or not to wax?

I am a tight arse (thats the first thing out the way) currently I shave with a wet razor, I've never waxed and wondered if it would be a better option, I wouldn't buy the strips as they are expensive but I was looking at the tubs of wax so how do you use the tubs?, how long will a tub last? is it cheaper a month then using a razor?.

BTW I don't have a microwave so wouldn't be able heat it that way.

how about sugaring, its wax without the heat and reusable for a while, better than shaving and longer lasting.

I wouldn't advocate home waxing, I got a very nasty burn from a home waxing kit last month, I was using a roll on device, heated it in the micro (I know you say you haven't got one) didn't test it before applying it and it was way to hot, had to rip it off my leg with a strip and then the skin came off and had very nasty burn which has left a scar.

Using a tub would be very messy I think as you would apply it with a spatula and it would drip and make a mess.

You can buy tubs of and applicators that work cold these days I saw them in boots the other day which would be an option if no microwave.

Waxing is better in terms of how long your legs stay hair free but drawbacks are it is expensive, some people thing i hurts (i don't) and you do have to let the hairs grow to a certain length which isn't great but the hairs do grow back sparser and finer.

I definitely wouldn't recommend trying hot wax at home unless you have seen someone do it in a salon first, and I had done many times and still messed it up.

Cold ones? not seen them.

I use mach 3 probably get around 3-4 uses out of a blade, I tried Veet once, it left most of the hair intacked and stripped my legs of skin, washed it off in the shower and wondered why my legs looked so white, gave em a rub and it all fell off like dandruff.

I was looking at Epilators in Argos but I thought it would probably hurt more then wax

I've been home waxing for a while, and it hurt a bit. I have recently bought some Nad's gel stuff and it does just as good a job but is less painful and leaves less bumpiness after. I did give it a short blast in the microwave to make it properly honey texture before application, and realised after the first strip didn't work that the dusting of baby powder I usually apply with the wax doesn't work with it, but after that it's been great.

Would very much recommend it! Cheapest in Sainsburys at the moment, though Boots have a 3 for 2 thing on at the moment and the ingrowing hair stuff is in it too and that is also very good. Haven't had a single bump using the combination and I'm prone to razor rashes anyway.

Do make sure you apply in the direction of the hair, then rub the cloth with the hair and rip off against the hair as close to skin as possible though.

Just want to pick up on your comment about epilators. I allowed my SIL to wax my lower legs for me last year as I didnt have the guts to do it myself and it hurt but it was a bareable pain so decided to try an epilator and to be honest I dont think it hurts as much as waxing. Particularly not once you have got the first full legs of hair torture out of the way and you keep up to it, (I now aim to do it once a week if I get chance.) The other added bonus is that you dont have to let the hair grow as much!
