Hairdresser troubles

I went for a wash/cut/blowdry on Saturday and I'm really not happy. I have long, thick curly hair which I am still trying to grow a bit more so I asked hairdresser several times to just dust the ends off when cutting, keep layers long etc. She blowdried it straight first, then cut it, and she was cutting it as if I wear it straight, not taking curls into account. She's taken FAAAAAR too much off. I asked her to stop cutting when she was going over it for the third time but she said she needed to even up the other side, it would be too heavy otherwise, would look great when curly etc etc. I decided she must know what she was doing so went along with it

It looked ok when straight but now I've washed it and it's curly again, I'm really not happy with it. I know there's nothing that can be done, and it doesn't look hideous or anything, but she's taken about 4 months growth off and that is not what I asked for. I'm planning to just vote with my feet and never go back there for a cut again, but would be interested to know how you have handled any similar situations??? I guess I need to be more assertive in future and am fishing for tips! TIA

It's an ok cut Earlybird, she's hasn't totally messed it up, just not done what I asked for at all. She's taken about inch and a half off in some parts. I was expecting a tiny fraction of that - just 'dusting' the very tips off

Sympathies here, I know how annoying / upsetting this can be. This hairdresser sounds very poor - in the 'I know best and don't tell me what you want category'

Tips from me:

1. Don't ever go there again
2. Next time, tell the hairdresser not to trim ends after drying - IME this is where a lot of bother is caused for curly hair - causes frizziness/ flyaway ends if not kept blunt on the ends
3. Alternatively (to avoid "2" above) ask them to dry curly, so they can't trim the ends anyway! Then either tsriaghten yourself or go somewhere for just a blow dry straight. A lot of hassle I know.
4. If you are feeling assertive and not too upset, you could try calling. They might offer you a discount, but there's not much they can do right now to make it better, which they could if it were a colour problem etc. Also, when something like this has happened, one does not exactly feel like entrusting hair to them again! I guess you could tell them you are so upset you won't be going there again, which may send the right message to the stylist who did your hair (or may not) but nothing to be lost.

Hopefully it will look OK until it grows again.

Thanks Mrs SeanBean, I agree with what you say. I will go back for blowdrys (they're cheap and have always done a decent job) but no more cuts. I'm going to try to find a hairdresser who actually knows what to do with curly hair - they are v thin on the ground it seems!
