Haircut you have most regretted?

I am getting cold feet about a haircut tomorrow. I want to go really, really short, but I am worried that if I don't like it I'll regret it for a long time. So, what's your biggest regret haircut wise? If all of you say it was getting it cut short I may just cry! Mine was a hideous bowl haircut whenI was about nine Have been scared of hairdressers ever since

When I was at uni my friends persuaded me to go to a really trendy place to get my hair cut. They thought I woudl just get a really nice bob - but I came out looking like a floppy eared rabbit. It was horrendous - my friends couldn't look me straight in the face for days. Had to get it redone at my local non-trendy place that weekend!
Other than that, worst haircut was when I was 14 and my mum decided to cut my fringe after she'd had a couple of glasses of wine...

crazydazy · 14/11/2005 16:04

I think you have to have a really beautiful face to carry off a short hairstyle. Like for instance Halle Berry or when Natalie Imbruglia had hers short.

I personally would never have my hair cut short because I just know it wouldn't suit me, I look very boyish with short hair!!!!

bosscat · 14/11/2005 16:05

don't know about cut but I am hating the colour I have at the moment. I am usually just a blonde highlights girl and have been for the last million years. this time had a tint and it looks like a wig. aaagggghhhhh.

Nbg · 14/11/2005 16:05

I had my lon locks cut off when I was younger (the days before hair straightners were invented)

Big mistake!!!

I'm not reading anymore of this thread though because I'm having mine cut short again soon so don't want to hear any bad stories, lol!

crazydazy · 14/11/2005 16:05

My worst hairstyle was when I was about 12 or something and I had it permed on top!!!! Can you believe it!!! It was a very tight perm too, I cried my heart out for weeks!!!!!

ninah · 14/11/2005 16:37

mine was a 'trim' on Saturday

iota · 14/11/2005 16:39

my mum having all my hair cut off when I was about 10 - I lookeed like a boy and it took years to grow out

After I had DS2 I had my hair cut short, the underneath of my hair was very short leaving all these longer bits which then had to be attacked with straighteners to make them all spikey (I have heavy hair so very difficult to make it spike up the way), loads of wax and hairspray to hold them in place and to make matters worse I went back to the hairdresser a week later to get peroxide dabbed on the last inch or so of each of the spikey bits.

In my defence, it was sort of trendy at the time and loads of my hair had fallen out after DS2 leaving bald bits that grew in spikey and I did ask for a haircut that would disguise it.

MrsSpoon · 14/11/2005 16:43

DS1 said I looked like a tiger.

when I was 20 I had my long hair cut into a very short bob which for some reason had feathery bits at the back. To 'improve' it I had what was basically a short back and sides. Absolutely awful.

hatstand · 14/11/2005 17:17

had a fringe cut in when I was pg with dd2. dh hated it. I couldn't see "me" in the mirror. Which tends not to be a good thing when you're having second-pregnancy-omg-is-this-my-life-for-ever-where-am-I-type identity crisis. Hair's never been the same since. (but thr fringe has gone, what was I thinking of?) If you're pg little lamb I'd think twice.

CountessDracula · 14/11/2005 17:18

Oh god when I was 18 I had highlights (first and last time) - I looked like I had walked through a dust cloud

Stilltrue · 14/11/2005 17:27

After ds2 I had fairly bad hairloss, so decided to go from shoulder length bob to really short. I thought it would look better - all elfin and gamine rather than nondescript and thin. I even upgraded to a really trendy salon. Awful! I regretted it for about a year. Also it was winter and I looked really pale and ill - had lost too much weight and was anaemic after the birth. What a shocker!

One I got at a Vidal Sassoon 'Academy' that made me look so much like a prostitute/drug addict that they wouldn't serve me in a sandwich bar in Mayfair

I am now of an age when I know what suits me!
