Did anyone NOT like their engagement ring?

Usually the engagement ring threads are full of mnetters gushing about how much they love, love, love their engagement rings. My df chose mine as a surprise and I'm not sure it's what I'd have chosen. Just wondering if I'm the only one!

My fella picked a realllly pretty ring bless him, but I just didn't like it so I swapped it for another one when we went to the shop to get it resized. I just explained to him that I wanted a single stone one rather than a swirly one like he'd bought, I said I thought the style might date. I did feel horribly guilty but it's better than having a ring you don't like forever surely?

He didn't seem to mind!

I feel bad for admitting this but i actually turned my boyfriend down because of the ring - god i feel ashamed admitting that BUT in my defence... a few weeks earlier his friend had got engaged and at there house 1 evening i was admiring the ring (it was absolutely horrible, tiny too) but you cant say that so i said how nice it was, fast forward a few weeks and my boyfriend proposes in my bedroom after id had a sleep, i woke up all excited to find myself staring at the ugly ring! I said id think about it but eventually said no cos i thought he couldnt even choose 1 himself he just went and spoke to his friend to find out which 1 he had bought. 7 years later though im still with him so these days i drop hints whenever I can!

I have about 4 or 5 engagement rings that I rotate on a regular basis! We've been together over 20 years, I get bored with the same ring day in day out Grin

engagement rings are not a symbol of love, unless you actually believe the debeers advertising campaign.

I also have 2 wedding rings i chop and change too Grin

I don't have one because I didn't want one. We were skint at the time and I felt that, as long as we knew we were commited to each other, buying a symbol of that commitment was an unnecessary expense. Besides I am not a ring person. I wear a plain gold band as a wedding ring, but don't wear any other rings as I just don't like them.

Been married 25 years this year.
DH would only spend £250 on engagement ring so it was a 0.2ct oval diamond in 9ct gold.
Had a very simple plain 9ct wedding ring that cost £18 which I always liked.
Then a few years ago Tesco started doing engagement rings and I bought a 0.5 round diamond in 9 ct gold for £480 (sure DH thinks I'm mad). Looks really nice with my wedding ring though.
Old one sat in a box in my drawer. Looks really tiny against the one I have from Tesco!
Few years ago I saw a woman with probably a platinum wedding ring with small diamonds spaced apart in it. Now that I would like, but feel it could be tempting some bad fate to replace wedding ring after 25 years!
