What kind of scent does he like? Something strong/woody or a lighter, fresher scent?

DH prefers the latter and I would recommend
Aqua de Gio by Giorgio Armani
The Paul Smith one in the stripy coloured box (helpful)
Paul Smith Man2
Davidoff- the new Cool Water one- not the original one but one they brought out quite recently.

Not sure how helpful any of that is really...

I like "Eau Sauvage" but it's not exactly unique, is it?

this one is recommended by Luca Turin, an you can get it by mail order!

There's a lavender that India Knight writes about, and I've sniffed it, and it is lovely, though your dh might, perhaps, have to be non-British to carry it off. I can't remember the name, but will ponder.

Oops. That link should be to the Lavender. "Tis the lavender Turin raves about.

Chanel Allure homme is great

Aqua di Parma? Pretty lovely, a bit different, and a classic.

I hear good things about Creed, too.
