What is with the socking great zips down the back of everything this season?

Every bloody dress and skirt I pick up. It looks horrendous and ruins an otherwise nice dress. WHY?

Agree. DD2 recently bought herself an expensive party frock and when it arrived I opened my mouth and put my foot in up to the knee when I commented on the zip. I am now in the doghouse and I have disqualified myself from ever commenting on any of her clothes ever again. But the dress will look so yesterday next week year.
