I use 3kg for the easy moves and 1.5 kg for the harder ones

Why don't you get a set with sevarl different weights so yo can see what suits you best?

Emo76 · 24/05/2011 19:38

Not a bad idea! thanks

I think I use 3kg for all (I am sooo hard)

Actually I was thinking for the bicep curl squats towards the end I could go up a weight.

That said the shoulder raise thing nearly killed me.

Its the pushups that really hurt though Grin

HeavyHeidi · 25/05/2011 09:06

I use 5 kilos, but I'm built like an ox.
Yes you need either different or adjustable weights, the idea is that you will get stronger and can switch to heavier ones. If you haven't exercised before, then can even start with water bottles.

tins of beans here I come!

3kg! 5kg! Fuck me sideways! I struggle with blinking Coke cans!

notyummy · 25/05/2011 11:45

I was just talking about this on another thread with a qualified personal trainer dontcha know (Libra).

I currently use 3kg and do two shreds back to back. I was thinking of moving up to 4kg but she basically kicked my arse and told me I should be on 5kg, even if I have to occasionally drop back down in the middle of a set if my arms fail me. I use 5 kg for the clean and press in level 3, so I have been told to go up to 7kg.

I would probably start on 1kg unless you are used to some sort of strength work already - but the suggestion of buying a set is a good idea. You do have to really push yourself (i.e it has to hurt...) or you wont see a clear difference.

Two shreds back to back?!? Stap my vitals.

The weights thing is quite odd. On the DVD the 'best girls' use the same weights throughout, but some of the arm exercises (bicep curls, chest press) would be far too easy with weights that I can only just use for the harder exercises (the accursed v-raise). I thus use two different weights, too. 1kg for hard 2.5 for middling and both together for easy.

carolemiddleclasston · 25/05/2011 16:28

Notyummy - please can you link to that thread?

IslaValargeone · 25/05/2011 16:34

5kg Shock you'd end up looking like geoff Capes surely?

notyummy · 25/05/2011 16:43

Don't say that around a personal trainer - they will roll their eyes and get grumpy! Apparently it is REALLY hard for women to bulk up - you would have to be following a special diet and lifting 10 times the amount of weight than we are talking about here. Jillian talks about bench pressing pretty big weights in one of her DVDs and she is not exactly hefty!

Link here Carole. Just scroll down a bit.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 25/05/2011 16:49

2.5kg and I thought I was doing well. Shock @ 5kg and @ 7kg.

Though tbf I wouldn't like to look like the more muscular of the two background girls (why on earth can't I remember her name? I hear it every sodding day) I think she looks great, but it's not a look I would want iyswim.

IslaValargeone · 25/05/2011 17:26

I'm just a wimp then 5kg would finish me off. I spent 6 months working in a bar lifting crates and kegs, my arms were really defined but went very veiny, it wasn't a good look. Did anyone see the pictures of Leanne Rimes in the DM, very lean and muscular, I thought she looked fab.

notyummy · 25/05/2011 18:09

It all depends on your body type doesn't it? I would rather be Natalie's size and toned rather than her size and not toned IFYSWIM. The really lean look a la Leeann Rimes is only to be got through pretty impressive will power around food as well as shredding/cardio I think. No/lo carb stuff. DH thought she (Rimes) was too much - and he is not put off by women with muscles - he thinks Jillian look alright (not that she would care Wink)

lipglossandlashes · 25/05/2011 20:53

Just started my first day of 30 day shred, used my 4kg weights, coped ok with most of it but ouchy for the side squats and lifts! Scared to look at level 2! I'm quite fit already so what's the opinion on recovery etc, as I thought that no point in training when your muscles are sore but feel Jillian wants us to train every day? Maybe just wishful thinking as I'm having a large wine! Blush

IslaValargeone · 25/05/2011 21:17

I certainly couldn't do the food deprivation bit that must go with looking like Leanne, but I'd like a nice pair of defined pins, can you get that shredding?

lipglossandlashes · 25/05/2011 22:22

So is there a special diet too?

petisa · 28/05/2011 16:03

Got this dvd recently and tried it for the first time - with tins of beans. How is it possible to turn me to jelly in only 20 mins! It feels like every single muscle hurts. Love it though, felt great afterwards, and even I have 20 mins (baby and toddler, dp working abroad at the moment = nooooo time for anything)

Deaddei · 28/05/2011 16:43

I used 7k ones in the gym today.......I am sure I will feel it tomorrow.
