Michelle Obama - I dont think this suits her...

What do you reckon

I think the flared skirt is a bit too prom dressy for (a) someone her age and (b) someone her height.

I'm not posting this to bitch though, though it sounds it, I'm more asking you stylish ladies how old you think is too old to wear this shaped dress or skirt.

35? 40? 45? Or am I just wrong and they are fine for any age?

I am 35 and starting to feel like I should be veering towards a straighter pencil style or just classic wrap dress style than anything to prommy though I might be overly paranoid that I need to worry about being mutton just yet.

What do you reckon?

I love the dress but am not so keen on the little pink cardi or the shoes. The style and colours of the dress are gorge.

BlooCowWonders · 24/05/2011 14:43

Seemed the wrong dress for the occasion for me.

Too

BlooCowWonders · 24/05/2011 14:44

Sorry

too flouncy and not serious enough

Pictish · 24/05/2011 14:45

I like the dress (oh her...I wouldn't wear it) but not the ickle girl cardi.

Aworryingtrend · 24/05/2011 14:46

Agree Agree. I normally love her style but this just doesn't quite work- it definitely accentuates her height (no bad thing if thats what she is aiming to do of course) and the cardigan and general style of the dress are a bit 'girly' in contrast with what the other women are wearing- quite smart and even severe outfits.

girlscout · 24/05/2011 15:18

MO could wear anything and would look fab,but this dress just isn't presidential/business enough. Like the beige sculptural dress the other ones wearing though.

megagusset · 24/05/2011 16:43

Doesn't suite her body type - too much going on about the hip. Hate the cardigan thingy, not 'formal' enough for a Royal Engagement. Love the colour combo though so she's getting there imo. But YUK to the shoes

gregssausageroll · 24/05/2011 18:11

I like all 3 but not together.

notyummy · 24/05/2011 18:42

Agree with Greggs - not all together. She could have done with something a lot more fitted on top if wearing that dress - cardie/bolero thing makes her look bigger. Overall probably not the right dress for the occasion- but not necessarily because of her age or height. (I am 40 and the same height and would probably give something similar a try tbh.)

mathanxiety · 24/05/2011 19:51

I think she should have chosen something different in light of the wind. And something more straight up and down in light of the occasion. She could have got away with a slim cardigan/jacket with a sheath dress.

Matsikula · 24/05/2011 21:42

Not Michelle Obama's best, but this was hardly a serious occasion, was it?

She was meeting a couple of 20 somethings and chatting about their recent honeymoon.

I love that she wears a lot of colour.
