Just curious really. I know people seem to hate waterfall cardigans, although i love the ones I have (which hide post pg belly).

I have just bought a pair of converse which i love wearing with jeans, a t-shirt and a blazer.

I have mountains of cocktail frocks (from a former life where such things were mandatory).

I love scarves, chunky silver jewellery and bangles, even though I rarely wear them.

I am a bit all over the place sartorially, and am hoping to lose a stone, and discover the inner stylish me. (cough cough giggle).

A trench coat is vital. I have three!

madammecholet · 23/05/2011 11:35

A decent handbag which will take you anywhere and make you feel good, plus it can smarten/liven up any outfit..Smile

SpringFollows · 23/05/2011 11:47

Have just bought a trench myself! An actual Burberry, in my size, from a charity shop. 5 quid later..... I was thrilled.

Have not managed to buy skinny jeands (due to fore mentioned weight issue) but love the look of black skinnies with ballet flats.

A well fitting black shift dress - can be worn for everything from office, to dates, to funerals.

Well fitting jeans in blue and black.

polyhymnia · 23/05/2011 11:57

Excellent jeans are the basics for me - then good trench and winter coat, one or two really good bags and a reasonable selection of shoes.

Would also add good haircut and bra, as they underpin everything else.

Gillybobs · 23/05/2011 11:59

Dark indigo jeans in a cut that suits you!
Breton tops
Boyfriend Blazer
Ballet pumps
Converse or similar
tan leather sandals
Wool cardis in beautiful colours (either boyfriend or shorter, crewneck style)
Trenchcoat
Well cut black trousers
Pencil skirt
Few silky tops (to go with trousers or jeans or pencil skirt)
LBD

animula · 23/05/2011 12:01

I've just bought some Gap skinny, black trousers (cropped, in this case).

They really are as good as everyone says. I am hoping they will lift me into ever-prepared, stylish territory - kind of like a girl scout from the Audrey Hepburn Brigade.

Apparently, the "inventor" of the "The Perfect Trousers" range at Gap is leaving, so this might be a good year to hither thee to Gap.

animula · 23/05/2011 12:10

By the way, it really is true about the Little Black Dress thing.

I bought my "perfect" LBD at Topshop about five or six years ago. I had no idea at the time that it was The One - it was just a cheap (it was Topshop!), jersey black dress.

But it's really nicely cut, and is amazingly versatile. It wouldn't be my top dress for a Going Out occasion, by a long chalk (though having said that, a friend asked me why I never wore it on "Nights Out", and it did occur to me that that might be a case of familiarity breeding contempt - which mad me feel a bit bad for LBD) but it really will do for all sorts of situations.

I have another for Night's Out. And again, it;s lasted ages because it's very plain (but it does look nice on - and makes me look slim(mer)).

Sadly, I'm not stylish - I'm a bit messy and slapdash - but the LBD often gives me little glimpses of what life on planet stylish might be like! And it really does simplify dressing of a morning/evening.

shortround · 23/05/2011 12:19

My priorities are a very good handbag or 3, a do everything black dress, a grey cashmere wrap, brown knee boots, a decent pair of dark blue jeans, black leather gloves, tweed Jacket, beige trench, white linen shirt, & my dior sunglasses!

HugoFirst · 23/05/2011 12:20

Ok havent read

here comes my predictions on this thread

mac
white shirts
"Ballet flats" do peopel say these two words OUT LOUD without feeling a ponce?
" nice dark cut jeans"

its all fashion and nothing is classic

otchayaniye · 23/05/2011 12:26

Burberry trench
Plain steel Rolex
Vintage crocodile bag
Cashmere (polo neck in winter, cardigans in summer)
Cigarette pants
Good quality shoes in whichever style you can comfortably and confidently walk in (and I've never seen anyone, not even models, walk well in 5 inch platforms)
Decent bras

DonaAna · 23/05/2011 13:06

I've never seen anyone over 25 look good in Converse. If you insist on wearing them, keep them meticulously clean.

dexter73 · 23/05/2011 13:50

Perhaps I had better put my converse in the machine then!Grin

TheFarSide · 23/05/2011 13:52

Linen trousers

niminypiminy · 23/05/2011 13:57

"its all fashion and nothing is classic" so so true HugoFirst if you look at those 'classics' you bought five years ago somehow they seem kind of, well, not quite so classic any more -- the wrong shape or colour, or just indefinably unstylish. So you go and buy this year's version and think, well, it's a classic, I'll wear it forever.

Or maybe that's just me.

AlpinePony · 23/05/2011 14:18

Expensive/good leather shoes.

I think I'm probably going to go against the grain here, but imo Converse are for teenagers & slobs. Hopefully we are neither!

bogle · 23/05/2011 14:19

hmmmm, good thread

Jaeger bag
coats and jackets and dresses from Cos
Blue straight jeans
havainianas (?)
heeled ankle boots
painted toe nails
short hair
lipstick and sunglasses

HugoFirst · 23/05/2011 15:04
