Feeling dowdy - got to wear glasses again

I keep switching from glasses to contact lenses but keep suffering from infections with lenses s looks like back to glasses. I never seem to find glasses that look really good. One's I've got are ok. Dark thin frame squarish and small. However with mid length dark bob type hair (with fringe) and glasses and size 16 i feel very frumpy. I don't know whether to do something with hair - in some ways it looks better off face but I don't know about having it cut short. I've tried accessorising but dd loves necklaces, beads etc and end up being strangle dby her trying to chew them. Just at a low ebb image wise at the mo. Would love some ideas, help.

I know how you feel, I feel really frumpy in my boring specs. Sadly I don't think any glasses would look good. I can only wear lenses for a few hours and wear glasses the rest. I also have mid length bob. Why do you keep getting infections? I always get an infection if I use all-in-one solutions but if I use two-stage its okay. The bad thing is they're phasing out two-step products so I don't know what I'll do then. Apparently it's quite a common problem.
All I can suggest is to go to the opticians (Specsavers have a great selection not too pricey) in your contact lenses with a friend you can trust and no children and try on every pair until you find one you like (I find those camera things useless).
The other is to go to a good hairdresser - ask friends for recommendations - and see if they can suggest a new hairstyle. You need to be very sure before you get it cut short. Have you though about highlights? They can make a big difference.

Ditto highlights here - and whack on the eye makeup (tastefully of course!) so your eyes don't disappear behind them. I know how you feel - I've worn contacts for nearly 20 years, and only recently bought a pair of glasses that I feel good in.

I love my glasses! I think I look much better in them than without. But then I have been wearing them since I was eight (hated contacts). We have an excellent optometrist who is great at chosing good frames, and I would recommend chosing a smaller optician and asking for help in chosing. Also you have to make sure that your hairdresser understands that you wear glasses so they cut your hair accordingly (especially around the ears). You can look cool and stylish with glasses (honest!) if you really really don't think so, then laser surgery is worth considering.

I switch between glasses and lenses. I like glasses cos I feel I can get away with more eye make-up. With lenses some of it always seems to end up in my eyes eventually, making them irritable and greasy.

thanks everyone. I have tried highlights and agree theydo help but as witheverything its the upkeep! i might try them again though and see. I thought I was quite good with make up but I think I'm going through one of those phases where nothing seems to go right. Do you glasses wearers tend to choose lighter coloured eyeshadows and mascara and eyeliner? I tend to use a light one all over the eye and then a mid to deep brown inthe socket line with brown eyeliner andblack mascara. Any more tips will be greatfully received.
