My Birkenstocks hurt

i bought some Madrid ones and have them on today.
They aren't rubbing, but just feel wrong, as if the strap is bruising me.
Anyone had this issue?

I find Birkenstocks unbearable. Too hard and rub dreadfully. I have tried several styles and tried to 'wear them in' around the hosue and just given myself horrid blisters.

Maybe try and wear them in for a week or two and see how you get on? Not all shoes are comfy on everyone! Haivaianas and ballet pumps also hurt my feet!

PlentyOfPrimroses · 21/05/2011 13:36

Yes, new birkies always feel like this on me. Stick with them and they'll wear in and be really comfy. I wear them round the house for an hour or so a day when they're new and after about a week they're worn in.

fluffles · 21/05/2011 13:36

are madrids one strap or two?
i can't wear one-strap ones, as there's too much pressure on the one spot. two straps are very comfy.

but, on the positive side, all birkies get softer and more comfy with wear, try socks with them in the house for a bit.

I find the same at the beginning of the summer but just tend to wear them for short periods of time to begin with. You soon get used to them

ruthsmumkath · 21/05/2011 13:50

I was telling a lady in John Lewis the very same thing as I bought my daughter a pair apparently it's a stage and we must persevere though it and then they'll be grand.

AnnoyingOrange · 21/05/2011 14:00

I have the tabora style and find them much more supportive than the madrid

piprabbit · 21/05/2011 14:11

Have you adjusted the strap? I had to take my Madrid's right in before they got comfy.

Now they are blissfully comfy but stink - heyho.

shortround · 21/05/2011 14:59

Mine are unfortable if I actually walk far, but for darting out to the washing line, or the bin they Are fine. I have a very high instep, and they just offer me no support what so ever, which I find bizarre as I thought they would be fab!!! I'm comfier in high heels!!

ZZZenAgain · 21/05/2011 15:01

they always hurt. You have to wear socks when you wear them in IME. Have never had Madrids though - only indoor clog cum slipper things

OhCobblers · 21/05/2011 15:34

so glad i've seen this thread, thought it was just mine that did that!

Deaddei · 21/05/2011 17:16

That makes me feel better.
I had some years ago and vaguely remember putting some foam under the strap.
I will persevere as they are a very nice grey colour and go with everything.
Otherwise I will name change to BunionBabe.

I got the madrids in silver last year and gave up on them. Will get them out and have another go!

deaconblue · 21/05/2011 18:11

mine feel like they are bruising when I first put them on in the summer. in fact with my flip flop ones I get a tiny bruise where the toe post touches. But after a couple of weeks they are super comfy so I would say stick with them
