Very subtle fake tan for very fair skin?

MakeYerOwnDamnDinner · 20/05/2011 19:53

I have red hair and very fair skin. I would like to find a very subtle fake tan that doesn't make me look brown but just takes the edge off the whiteness if you see what I mean. Anyone know of a decent product I could try?

L'Oreal do a spray can one and in the lighter shade it was unnoticeable on me (less fair than you) - worth a go I think as it may be just right for you!

MakeYerOwnDamnDinner · 20/05/2011 19:57

Ah thank you Emo - shall have a look out for that.

I am quite fair and use the Dove gradual tan stuff. I don't use it on my face so need to remember to blend my usual (white) foundation with a little bit of darker foundation so that my face doesn't look too pasty.

MakeYerOwnDamnDinner · 20/05/2011 19:59

Yeah I've heard good things from other people about the Dove gradual tan stuff. Do you need to apply it every day?

Every day for a couple of days and then every other day is probably enough

trixymalixy · 21/05/2011 08:26

Just don't buy the dove stuff with shimmer!! That definitely doesn't look natural!!

geordieminx · 21/05/2011 08:33

I like the Dove one. First application is scary, as it will look patchy, put it on in the evening, and then again in the morning, then every day for a couple of days, then if you want to maintain a colour every couple of days.

Our local B&M store has it for £2 or something?

MakeYerOwnDamnDinner · 21/05/2011 10:09

Thanks everyone. Have invested in some Dove "summer glow" for fair to medium skin - without shimmer!

Put some on for the first time last night and am definitely happy with the subtlety factor - there is a slight difference which is what I wanted. Presumably you can build up colour by using it every day and then maintain the desired colour by using it less often?

Only trouble is I find the colour tends to concentrate around certain areas - elbows and knees e.c.t. Does anybody know what can be done about this? I am exfoliating before I put it on.

A friend of mine was given this tip, dunno if it might be of use? Whilst you have lots of the cream on your hands, avoid elbows and knees altogether. Once its all almost rubbed in everywhere else, just give knees and elbows a quick rub over with the tiny bit thats left on your hands.

I use Clarins gel mixed 50/50 with body lotion, but have recently used Johnsons glow stuff- for fair skin- again mixed with a dollop of body lotion about 50/50. After 2 applications it has taken away the ultra white look on my legs.

I would advise tough that when applying ay fake stuff you blend and blend a million times in every direction- across and down the skin several times, then wipe over knees, heels and ankles with camp cotton wool to stop it clinging to dry bits.

cabbageroses · 21/05/2011 10:59

camp? damp!

OllieWollieWoo · 21/05/2011 12:48

Sounds like the Dove one suits your skin MYODD but just wanted to add that I am now using this Fake Bake one especially for fair skin here and am v pleased with it. Got mine off Amazon. Smells v nice too!

TigerseyeMum · 21/05/2011 17:59

I use the Dove Summer Glow on my body and it's great. I use Decleor on my face and it is really natural, colleagues commented on 'how I had caught the sun' Grin

'Yes' I said, 'Remarkable how I caught the sun overnight' Grin

Deaddei · 21/05/2011 18:07

This is interesting...I have never found a fake tan which does not look right on me.
I have very dark hair and fair skin and have tried the gradual build up ones, St Tropez.....all end up orangey toned.
Am interested in the fair fake bake.....

gregssausageroll · 21/05/2011 18:10

Does Dove smell though?

tiredandgrumpy · 21/05/2011 18:15

I put Vaseline on knees, elbows, heels etc first, then apply the moisturiser as normal. Prevents darker coloured areas plus also softens up knees etc.

TigerseyeMum · 21/05/2011 18:39

I am fair with green eyes and dark hair and both look ok on me.

Dove has a fait smell of self tan but I am the only one who notices, I keep sniffing my arms Grin

KristinaM · 21/05/2011 20:57

Garnier summer body in the light version is very subtle. Try it with 50:50 body lotion the first time, you can always do amother application the next day. Put moisturiser on elbow, knees, feet etc first

moragbellingham · 21/05/2011 21:20

Apparently Palmer Cutler fake tan range re-launched last year.

I have been looking for this for eons as it was brilliant for pale skin - Patsy Palmer (Bianca from Eastenders) was partly behind it.

Indaba · 21/05/2011 21:31

For face and neck can't recommend Clarins face and decollette highly enough!

Fab and v v v v subtle. You can build it up gradually.

Expensive but lasts ages.

MakeYerOwnDamnDinner · 21/05/2011 23:57

Oooh thanks everyone. Shall have a look at that Fake Bake one for fair skin too. The Dove does seem to smell faintly 'biscuit tinny' but I guess that's unavoidable with fake tan eh?

It’s a zombie thread I know but the OPs question is mine - mega pale, don’t want to look brown just less white. Times move on, new products are available. Please help a mid thirties pale Jane to avoid looking dead at a summer wedding next week.

RandomMess · 17/06/2018 18:35

I use the cheap mousse and leave it on for an hour - St Moriz fast self tanning foam.

Leave on for 1-3 hours.

Bluesheep8 · 17/06/2018 19:04

I'm very fair (Irish) despite having dark hair and most fake tans, even the gradual ones look orange/too dark on me. I've recently discovered Avon skin so soft enhance and glow in the Fair shade and am really impressed with it. It just warms up the whiteness and looks really natural. I've bought one tube and have already ordered another two. Plus it doesn't smell, which is another bonus Smile

PicklingGherkins · 17/06/2018 19:08

Thank you so much. I can't take a brown as I'm too fair but just an off white would be nice 😂
