Thanks Mumsnet, and The Guardian, who convinced me it was a good thing to do...I HATE them! I look like a porn star...(except only my eyes) and the woman at the salon being funny about taking them off! Ok for a party, which is why I did it, but I can't walk around like this, and speak to people, and have them take me seriously...

trim them.

sagalsmith · 19/05/2011 11:14

Mine were soooo long (I'd asked for the longest) that they brushed against my glasses and sunglasses and tickled my eyebrows!!
I'm in a serious job so this was during maternity leave. It was sooo ridiculous that it actually gave me a lot of pleasure as it was very, very funny.
Look at the bright side of it and enjoy fluttering your lashes- it falls off rather quickly and then you definitely have to trim.

8oreighty · 19/05/2011 11:26

but I heard trimming them makes the ends too thick? blunt?

It sounds like your therapist did not ask you what kind of result you wanted? Did you discuss what effect you wanted? I have worn them for 2 years, but mine are not long thick ones, mine are thinner, fine and more natural looking....

If it was me id trim them, but to be honest they will come out naturally over the next 2-3 weeks so i'd leave them be.

8oreighty · 19/05/2011 12:52

it is partly my fault as I said I wanted something in between natural and dramatic, thinking natural was - natural...they are def. dramatic...I guess I need to suck it up and get used to them...too embarrassed to do school run!

Just had mine done so asked my therapist about your plight! She said oil will get them off, just rub plain oil and and rub gently. It breaks the glue down. So you maybe need to do it over a few days but it will work.

EttiKetti · 19/05/2011 16:52

Oil didnt remove mine, only this hideouis, eye stinging solution the salon had got rid of mine, rubbing and soaking in oil just gave me red eyes!

The salon should not be funny about removing them UNLESS they didnt actually buy the removal solution maybe??

geordieminx · 19/05/2011 17:16

I had mine done 3 weeks ago.

They looked great for the first 5 days then they started falling out, unevenly so.

They irritated the fuck out of me, it was like having the thickest clumpiest mascara on permanently. £60 I'll never get back.

I took a baby wipe to them (2 weeks after having them done) then pulled the rest out Blush

Hot bath/sauna/ steam from kettle will help.... Although the last option may cause 3rd degree burns Grin

The3Bears · 19/05/2011 17:56

Now you've scared me Im supposed to be getting mine done next week for a hen party :(

geordieminx · 19/05/2011 18:02

I honestly thought I would love mine, and had intended to get them infilled every couple of weeks. They fell out really quickly too.

madammecholet · 19/05/2011 19:00

Your natural lashes fall out on a 2/3 week cycle, so they will fall out, geordie it sounds like she glued them to all your long lashes instead of the short new ones, which would account for the falling out so quick maybe? I would suggest The3Bears that you go for a natural look to start with and build them up to the thickness/quantity you want over time.

I love mine, but I started fine and built them up (way too much) and then regressed back to the size I have now. Not sure if all salons use the same sizing, but I started on 11's, went to 16's and am now back on 13's which suit me just fine.

Fleecy · 19/05/2011 19:06

I had mine done mid-March and still have a few of them left (which does look a bit odd Grin) but I loved them - they looked like I would like my lashes to look naturally and lasted for about five weeks.

I realise that doesn't help you 8oreighty but I wanted to reassure 3bears

bigkidsmademe · 19/05/2011 19:48

I used to have it done too but the uneven falling out drove me mad. I never lasted two weeks without pulling the remaining ones out to hide the big gaps :( such a shame as I thought they looked amazing
