Could I be missing out on a flattering dress style by going with what I know?

I am short and an overweight apple shape.

Size 16 bottom but more comfortable in an 18 on top and I am a 38 E.

I always play safe with dresses and buy this style :

cgi.ebay.co.uk/BNWT-MONSOON-Monica-BLACK-Beaded-ORIANE-Dress-SIZE-10-/370447002339

I don't have a lot of confidence when shopping so have never even tried a different shape.

Should I stick to what I know or has anyone suggestions of other styles that might suit?

I have 2 weddings this year. Already lost 5lbs so will eventually be smaller but basically the same shape.

Thanks.

First off well done on your weight loss. Can you get to a John Lewis and use a personal shopper. It's free and sometimes it takes a stranger to get you to try something out of your comfort zone. Also, from what I read on here I think it's fun too. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks Buddhastic.

No John Lewis unfortunately.

I found myself considering this dress and then realised I have 2 almost identical ones.

I'd love to try something different but nervous about looking terrible.

You could try a mai dress with a similar top part, just a long skirt in a summery colour/print, maybe like this:

or

Well done on your weight loss btw, thats great keep it up.
