Pear shape seeks black jacket/blazer - what to avoid/go for?

am looking for a simple black fitted jacket/blazer to smarten up certain outfits. being 5'4" slightly pear shaped 10/12 on top, 12/14 bottom am not sure what style/cut/length would be the most flattering?

will be going shopping Friday to spend my birthday money so would be good to know what I should be looking for!

You're very similar in size to myself. Jackets look great, they correct that imbalance between shoulder and hip, but the cut is oh-so important. I avoid anything that finishes at bum level (I carry my weight at thigh/bum), always aim for a cut that finishes at or just below the hipbone, if you see what I mean. Structured shoulders but not boxy, and good quality fabric that drapes nicely, I prefer those that are slightly fitted at the back as well. Mango have some lovely ones atm Mango

I'm a pear shape of similar proportions for you. I've been trying hard recently to learn how best to dress for my body shape and so far it seems you should wear things that nip you in at the waist and tops that cut at your waist not your thighs. A 3/4 length sleeve also draws attention to your waist.

I brought a blazer from Zara a couple of months ago and have worn it loads, there aren't any on their website but I have 2 that look like this but with turned up sleeves

oh yes and look for shoulder pads - it evens out your bottom heavy half!

they look fab with really long, dark jeans and heals to lengthen your legs

am liking some of the Mango ones. will have to go and try loads on. want one that will work with jeans as well as some dresses.

was thinking a stretchy cotton fabric as don't want it to look too suit jacket-y Iyswim?

The mango blue/white stripe jacket is v v nice (dd has it) pic doesn't do it justice; good cut and well made for the price. Not the colour you want, but looks fab with jeans for the summer
