I am so thoroughly fed up with my one or two bits of nice maternity wear and very much looking forward to getting back into my old clothes. Baby due in one week. What are the chances of being able to drag myself into a few non-maternity summer dresses by, say, August? I don't want to be insanely optimistic about this so alternative is to buy something nice in a slightly bigger than normal style and look forward to wearing that?

I'm with you there, am due in 3 weeks (possibly going to come earlier due to breech and possible c-section). I guess it depends on how much weight you've put on? I know I've put on about 2.5 stone so have no idea how long its going to take me to get back into my normal pre-pregnancy clothes. I'm v tempted by some of the pretty dresses around at the moment that I could buy as a treat so I have something to aim for ...

Depends how much weight you've actually put on throughout your pregnancy. I lost all my weight within a couple of months due to bad diet ,colicky sleepless nights and I looked like a sack of ***.

I would rather have eaten more healthy small meals regularly (this requires immense powers of planning BTW).
Breast-feeding made me incredibly hungry and I grabbed what I could find. If there's a next time, I would be more prepared with loads of cold healthy stuff to hand for snacks when you can't get out, move around (baby asleep on you etc.) Sorry for the lecture - hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Floaty summer dresses sound great for a C-section if you have one, anything tight would be not pleasant at all.
TBH I wouldn't buy anything yet as it could be nice to look forward to an hour or two shopping for a dress when you know your size.

Thanks Morag. I've put on 1.5 stone so far (now 39 weeks pregnant) so am hoping not too much more to go. Will try and follow your advice re breastfeeding. I am a terrible snacker, so I know my willpower will be low around chocolate and biscuits, so will try to clear the house of such things before baby's arrival.

HandMini 1.5 stone is nothing, I'd be expecting you to be back in your normal clothes within weeks (swelling notwithstanding). I've put on about 2.5 stone and at the hospital today was told I had a very neat and toned bump Smile
