Nice smart dresses

Hello glamorous people, I could do with some advice about where I can buy some smart but stylish/trendy dresses for work.

I am 26 and would like to look it :) I'm size 10 and 5'11". I often find that dresses in i.e. Zara or French Connection are too short on me; I'm a teacher so too much thigh-flashing is a no-no. I like dresses which are knee-length or just above, but because I'm tall dresses which are supposed to be this length end up skimming my crotch!

I also have a narrow waist and wide hips, which means shift dresses don't really suit me. Karen Millen is the worst for this; their stuff is quite boxy and makes me look really shapeless.

I would like to buy at least two dresses but hopefully three for about £150. Any suggestions gratefully received!

Try coast or Oui. I have a few of theirs. They contain some lycra so they never crease, good for all day. Are fairly trendy but OK for the office

Have a look in M&S - it's hit and miss but I have a nice work dress from there.

I also got a great work dress from Austin Reed in a sale (about 50% off) so worth looking in more pricey shops to see if there's anything in the sales.

Good luck!

LK Bennett great, i am similar size/ height as you OP. They r £££ though.

Thanks for the suggestions! Isn't Coast a bit 'dressy' for daytime, elastamum?

Will definitely look in Austin Reed/LK Bennett.

Fenn Wright Manson? They always seem v long, and White Stuff.

Or White Company- usually fairly long.

Coast do actually do some more officey type dresses too.

second LK Bennett. Also saw some in magazines recently from Jaeger that look nice, but v pricey.

Have you tried Jigsaw? I saw someone in a dress from there (which I ignored on the hannger because it had a sort of vomity pattern on) but it was really nice. Also they have jersey type ones in there and linen which are ok. Still maybe a bit above your budget and possibly not very trendy, but good for work.

and then what about the dreaded Next? I have a couple of shift type dresses from there (not this year) which are fine for work. I have a long body and buy from these places.

Thanks again! Have looked on Jigsaw online and it seems they have some lovely stuff; Mango is also looking promising :D

Oooh yes I have a nice dress from Mango actually. Need to try on as some is quite short but some isn't...

Phase 8 might be worth looking at (think they have a sale at the moment too). some is too dressy or a bit mumsy but some stuff is lovely.
