Help, need advice for work-wear!

OK, I'm a film production student finishing uni at the end of the month (eek!) and in June I've managed to get my first paid freelance job as a camera operator.

I have no clue what to wear, apart from footwear (I've got some steel toed trainers I never go on shoot without!). What do I wear other than that?

I was thinking t-shirts on the top, but the bottom is confusing me, because it just doesn't feel right wearing jeans for your job, but I need something hard wearing, easy to move in, and preferably with a few pockets. I was thinking of going down to our Army surplus place and seeing if they did plain black cargo trousers, but any other suggestions welcome!

I'd say good quality black cotton trousers in a cut that suits you. Gap do the best range ever in every possible cut so you should find one that suits premium trouser collection

Can you speak to one of the camera operators who work in the company you will be working in? (well done, BTW).
Clearly it's not a case of office wear. I wouldn't be surprised if there were no particular dress codes and it was very casual - jeans etc. Or speak to whoever offered you the job to ask if there is a dress code.
One idea - some of the fitted cargo trousers that are around right now?
Or black jeans look a lot smarter than blue jeans ( I get away with black jeans at work where blue jeans are banned by dress code Grin)

I work as a freelance in the same area a nd I can tell you that I go along in wedge heels, leggings and dresses! It's still all comfy stuff though. I'd never wear jeans to work. It depends on what sort of are you are working in. I am in corporate area. I just want to look nice so make an effort. Camera equipment is very attention grabbing - everyone checks you out. No pressure then!

Oh my.... Shock

It's a live events company, not going to name them but they're fairly big. I'm working a conference so yeah, smart casual might be the way to go.

I don't normally do girly when I'm on shoot Shock
