I have managed to lose most of the baby flab and have just bought a fab dress like this. It is very flatering but is stretchy so it shows off exactly where my knickers are.
I then went and bought my first ever shape control pants from M+S. They are a complete disaster. They work round my bum but the waist band digs right in and leaves a huge mound of flesh pouring over the top (and my tummy is quite flat without them on!).

So what should I get. I am tempted to get some more similar dressed from fever for work and am willing to invest in something to make it work. Can you get things to wear over your underwear so you can wear the same sucky in thing for more than one day? Or do you have to invest £50 for something you wash after one day's use?

I do feel painfully naive.

One word, Spanx! ...they are the bestSmile

HelloPiggy · 14/05/2011 02:09

I have tried several styles of holding-in knickers but none of them stayed in the right place (never tried spanx though but have heard good things about them).

The only one that worked for me is the tube type to wear under a dress.

Spanx are good. Try the website Mytights.com. They have all sorts of shapewear.

I can't link a whole thread for some reason but check out the "shapewear recommendation" thread - it's very recent. I've got a flexee onesieBlush on the way thanks to mmecholet.

I dont get on with control pants of any size, they slip down (giving bad back fat muffin) or make my stomach really hurt. I have a v large chest so bodies are out too. Sad
I bought one of these for wearing uinder dresses:

works a treat, really sloothes everyting out and you can wear any bra with it.

Thanks for the responses.

I like the look of Mumelie's one - can you wear knickers underneath it without them showing?
Off to thread hunt for shapewear...

If you want something cheap to try, go to Asda. I got a shapewear thing there. It is like a tube dress, so good for under dresses, but i also have it in todey with longer tops and jeans. It is not as sucky in as some things, but it is comfortable, and no rolling problem at all, because it is long. I can wear it all day at work, and it saves me wearing a camisole under a wrap dress. Oh and it is about £7. I am 14/16, but def go for the smaller size. Might still be best with seam free knickers though.

moragbellingham · 15/05/2011 19:11

Whatever you do don't buy the Next £15 version of Mumelie's recommendation for underneath jersey dresses.
Whilst it is good for under some dresses, the seams are very noticeable.

GeneHuntsMistress · 15/05/2011 19:17

I have tried everything in the sucky in knicker world and would recommend Bodies. Get mine from M&S I have loads of them now, flesh colour is most useful but also have White and lots of black ones

Other thing I would suggest might be useful for you if you prefer the knickers but have the overhang ( like me which is why I prefer bodies), you could try a plain slip over your undies which also makes dresses hang much nicer. Would be a bit hot over summer though I would say!
